Monia Jean Moore, 90, of Horse Branch, passed away, Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Ohio County Hospital surrounded by her family.  She was born May 15, 1932 on Sixes Creek to the late Nobel and Dessie Embry Johnson.  She retired from GE after 43 years and was a member of Sugar Grove Church of Christ.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Everett Moore, one son, Russell Daugherty, Jr, three brothers, Durl Johnson, Victor Johnson, and Richard Johnson; three sisters, Gaynell Morris, Mary Reddish, and Agatha Hillard.

Albert (Ab) Clark Porter, age 80, passed away Friday, October 21 in Delaware County, Pennsylvania after suffering a severe heart attack. He was born to the

union of Mable Johnson and Clark Thomas Porter II on October 30, 1941, in the Eden community of Butler County, Kentucky.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert and Tom Porter and 5 sisters Aleta Connor, Bonnie Romans, Marie Crump, Joyce Hammers

 and Margurite Tuggle.

Vadie Lee Cook, age 78, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Tuesday, (October 25, 2022) at Owensboro Health Twin Lakes.

She was born on November 5, 1943 in Butler County, KY, the daughter of the late Arbie and Lectie Davis Dockery.

She lived for and loved her family, loved decorating her home, going to church, drinking her coffee and sitting outside in the evenings with her husband, Harold. She was a member of the Unity Pentecostal Church.

Marsha Ann Vance Brooks of Morgantown, Kentucky passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at the age of 73. Marsha was born in Butler County to Austin House "Hike" Vance, Sr. and Margie Smith Vance. Marsha was beloved by many for her kindness, words of encouragement, inspiration, and devotion to her family. She served her community through various organizations, including The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she was a devout member. Marsha’s unfaltering faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life.

Dennis Ray Farris, 69 of Rockport, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at his home. He was born on February 1, 1953, in Hartford to the late Roscoe and Shirley Farris. Dennis was a retired automobile mechanic and he also retired from Laborers Local 1392.

Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Ray Farris Jr. and four brothers.

Norma Jean Cardwell Embry, age 79, of Caneyville, Ky. passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022 at Norton’s Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY.  She was born in Dunbar, KY on Jan.

Desper H. McCoy, known by his friends as “Mac McCoy” age 92 of Newburgh, IN, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022 at Linda E White Hospice House in Evansville, IN. Desper was born Thursday, Sept. 11, 1930 in Quality, KY, to the union of Lucian Rex and Thelma Jenkins McCoy. Desper was a veteran of the U.S.

George Cardwell, age 73, of Morgantown, KY passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green. He was born in Butler Co., Ky. on June 17, 1949 to the late Isom and Erline Gray Cardwell.  George was a drywall hanger.  He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

George was survived by his wife of 49 years, Ida Mae Brooks Cardwell of Morgantown and several brothers and sisters.

There will be no services at this time.  Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Ross Edward Melton passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at the age of 88.  Ross was born August 27, 1934, in Woodbury, Kentucky to Marvin Ross and Opal (Jamison) Melton.  After high school graduation, he served in the United States Air Force and began his education journey leading to a pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky. He and his wife, Ruth, then made their home in Mount Sterling, opening Ross Drugs in 1963.

Janet Gayle Brooks, 77, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

Janet was a longtime member of Peniel Missionary Baptist Church and Order Of The Eastern Star OF Kentucky, 153 Fairdale Chapter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marie (Ingram), and Ivan Gary; husband, Jesse Norman Brooks; daughter, Lisa Brooks Bailey; brother, Tommie Gary, and grandson, Jacob McCauley.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Lori Brooks, and grandchildren, Zachary McCauley, Olivia Bailey, and Jessi Bailey.
