2022 Bearfest: Flener and Cardwell Crowned

Bearfest activities were held between games on Friday night.  Solomon Flener was crowned King.  He is the son of Chad and Carmen Flener of Morgantown. Gracie Cardwell was crowned Queen.  She is the daughter of Chad and Lesile Cardwell of Morgantown.

My DAR Patriot

Benjamin Sublett, my 5th great grandfather, was born the son of Pierre Louis Soblet I and Marte Martain in King William Parrish, Goochland, Virginia, a British Colony in 1733. The Soblet name was changed to the Americanized Sublett after arriving in the colonies. He married Mary Elizabeth Jordan in 1762 in St James Northam Parrish, Goochland, Virginia and they had at least 12 children, 5 daughters and 7 sons including Samuel Pierre Sublett, my 4th great grandfather.

BCHS Academic Team District Governor's Cup Results

The Butler County High School Academic Team competed at the District Governor’s Cup on Saturday January 22 at Franklin-Simpson High School.

Our quick recall team placed 2nd qualifying them for regionals. Willie Brown, Maggie Drake, Ellie Martin, Delaney Daugherty, Parker Stallings, Bailey West and Aer Sells competed for the varsity quick recall team.

Kentucky 4-H Camps Are Hiring

It may be the dead of winter, but camping season is just around the corner. To get ready, Kentucky 4-H is now hiring for its seasonal camp staff positions. 

Kentucky 4-H has a long, proud tradition of providing positive youth development experiences through our 4-H Camping Program. Employees will work at one of four regional camps in Laurel, Russell, Nicholas or Hopkins counties. Together, these camps provide a quality educational and fun experience for more than 13,000 4-H’ers and 4-H volunteers each summer.

Geoffrey Johnson, Blacksmith

The blacksmithing trade goes back as far as 1500 BC.  Initially used as a method to create weapons, this trade was also used in the industrial era for manufacturing.  Now with a renewed interest in the history and methods of blacksmithing, several people have become fans of a show called Forged in Fire.  Influenced by the show, Geoffrey Johnson took a keen interest in black smithing a little over two years ago.
