Recycling/Solid Waste 2021:  January – December

Recycling:

1. The Recycling Center made 3,867 runs and processed the materials.  Old newsprint, white paper, books, aluminum, steel, other various metals, and cardboard.  Had 822 deliveries of various materials.  Had 997 volunteer labor hours.

Pesticide Applicator Training Offered in Butler County 2022

The 2022 Private Pesticide Applicator Training dates are listed below.  Farmers who apply pesticides on their own farm should be private pesticide applicators and keep records of the applications.  The training covers how to use the products safely, information about the worker protection standard, and some pest management issues common in Butler County.  Participation in these trainings are free and the class will last 3 hours.  This training will not meet the Dicamba requirements.  Applicators wishing to apply Dicamba Herbicide in 2022 must complete a Dicamba specific training that will b

Maggie Childers: Singer, Song Writer, and Musician

Six degrees of separation is the theory that we are all connected via six or fewer social connections.  Hometown connections is how this young artist was discovered.  This theory turned out to be proven for Maggie Childers.  Her mother’s close friend from high school, Ben Travis, is currently a music producer in Nashville. When Maggie’s mother posted a video of her daughter singing on Facebook, he took notice and reached out to her… from there Maggie’s musical career has already begun at the young age of fifteen.

Belmont Christian Academy Senior Night

Belmont Christian Academy held their senior night on Friday, February 18th at their basketball and volleyball games.  The seniors recognized are apart of the volleyball team and are as follows.

She is the daughter of Kirk and Libby Robison.  She has played volleyball for a total of 9 years.

Winter Bird Feeding

Winter is a hard time for birds to find natural foods like wild cherries and dogwood and holly berries. We can help by putting out feeders filled with seed, along with suet, pinecones smeared with peanut butter and even fruit halves. It will help supplement their diet and provide enough food to get them through the winter.

My DAR Patriot: James McKinney

James McKinney (McKenney), my 5th great grandfather, on my paternal grandmother’s side.  He was born about 1759 in Virginia (now West Virginia) and died August 18, 1831 and was buried in the McKinney Cemetery in the Sugar Grove community of Butler County, Kentucky.  James married Mary Polly Beaty on 23 November 1785 in Harrison County, Virginia.  Mary Polly Beaty was the daughter of Patrick Beaty, another Revolutionary War patriot.  They had 11 children, one of which was my 4th great grandfather, Archibald McKinney, who married Sarah Fugate on 3 August 1813 in Gallatin
