Lightning safety myths and truths

Storms, the sound of thunder and the flash of lightning, abound with myths of what can or cannot happen.  Today’s article will hopefully clarify some of those myths you have always heard.

Myth: Lightning never strikes in the same place twice.  In reality, lightning often strikes the same place repeatedly, especially it’s a tall, pointy, isolated object, i.e. Empire State Building is hit nearly 100 times a year.

HomeAgain, a lost pet's best chance

Facts & Figures
6 to 8 million pets enter U.S. shelters each year. Many are lost family pets.

Today, only 3 to 4 percent of dogs, and less than 1 percent of cats, arriving at U.S. shelters are microchipped.

1 in 3 family pets will get lost.

Without ID, 90 percent of lost pets will not return home.

A microchip is the only form of pet identification that is permanent, with a unique number that cannot fall off, be altered or be removed.
