Animal Assistance of Butler County: Help for the Helpless

Two years ago, a group of like-minded citizens decided it was time to form an organization that would care for neglected and abandoned animals in Butler County.  As a result, the Animal Assistance program was born.  The program was initially funded by the estate of Ms. Mona Gilstrap of Aberdeen, who left a directive that the funds provided by her estate be used for the betterment of the animals of Butler County.

MES Prepares for I'd Rather Read Week

Morgantown Elementary School will celebrate I'd Rather Read Week! March 4-8, 2013. This year’s daily activities include:
Monday, March 4th             Mad Scientist Crazy Hair Day
Tuesday, March 5th             Red and White Day (wear red/white like Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat’s hat)
Wednesday, March 6th         Crazy Sock Day (wear crazy socks like Dr. Seuss’ Fox in Socks)

Butler County FFA Assist Customers at IGA

On Friday, February 22, Butler County FFA members helped bag and carry out groceries at the local Morgantown IGA at part of the Kentucky Farm Bureau Food Check-out week.  They handed out the following information:
U.S. consumers spend about 10% of their disposable annual income on food.  Here is a breakdown by country. 
•    Philippines 38%
•    China 32%

•    Japan 14%

United States 10%

Monticello Baptist Church: Refreshing Perspective

Lydia Wells leads choir.

Sunday morning February 17th, Monticello Baptist Church turned the service over to the children of the church. Lydia Wells was the morning choir leader.  The choir was made up of the all the children. The congregation was blessed with an abundance of music.

Smith Funeral Home & Simply U Photography Team Up to Help St. Jude

Smith Funeral Home and Simply U Photography will be hosting their 3rd Annual St. Jude Easter Photo Fundraiser on Sunday, March 3 from 11 am until 4 pm at Smith Funeral Home.  Appointments are not necessary and there will be no outfit changes allowed.  We are asking for a donation of $25 for 1-4 people, $35 for 5-10 people and $50 for groups of over 10 people, these prices includes a 5 picture cd with up to 5 poses (depending on cooperation of the child).  Come help us help the children and families who are helped by St. Jude.  For more information contact Penni Lee at (270) 999-4111.

BC Sheriff & Extension Office Team Up for Drug Take Back Program

The Butler County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Scottie Ward, and Tracy Cowles, Butler County Extension Family and Consumer Science Agent, will sponsor a DRUG TAKE BACK PROGRAM on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, 10 am-2pm, at the Butler County Courthouse. The first 50 people will receive a free water bottle.

Miss Taylor Burden Crowned "Jr. Miss Sweetheart"

Miss Taylor Burden was crowned Jr Miss Sweetheart 2013, at a pageant on February 16th at the Ohio County Community Center. Taylor is the daughter of Chris and Tracy Burden. She also won most photogenic, prettiest smile, and prettiest hair. Congratulations Taylor!!!!

Four Generations

Shirley Embry, Maddux Goff, Chase Goff and Kathy Goff

Maddux Chase Goff is the son of Chase and Lauren Goff and was born October 9, 2012.  Recently, four generations gathered at Maddux's dedication service on Christmas Eve. Pictured are Great Grandmother Shirley Embry, Maddux Chase Goff, proud father, Chase Goff, and Grandmother Kathy Embry Goff.
