Butler County was well represented in the rabbit  division of the Kentucky State Fair this year. A&B Rabbittry, Angel Wolf Rabbits, and Honey Bunny Farms competed in several categories. 

Fifty years ago this summer, citizens of Auburn, Franklin, and Russellville, along with students from WKU, were preparing for the first performance of “Shakertown Revisited.” The script had been written by Russell Miller, faculty member in Western’s drama department, using both manuscript records and published material on the Shakers. The music, original Shaker melodies and turn of the century standards, was arranged by Ruth Morriss, faculty member in Western’s music department, who also directed the Civic Choral Club in the production.

The Homemakers’ program for September is “Extension Homemakers Support Military Families.”  Information for club leaders and other interested persons will be Friday, August 31, 2012, 10 a.m., at the Butler County Extension Office.

Saturday, August 18 I attended the 4th Annual Lake Malone Car, Truck and Tractor Show at the Lake Malone State Park in Dunmor, KY.  All models of cars, trucks and tractors were on display.  There were games, activities and fun for the entire family. 

Entertainment was provided by a local country band out of, I believe, Russellville, including 4 time World Champion harmonica player Ronnie Murphy. 

Richland Baptist Church will be hosting an Appreciation Dinner for all local public service men and women.

The Butler County Conservation District was recently recognized as the Kentucky Association of Conservation District’s Outstanding Conservation District for 2012 at the 69th Annual KACD Convention in Louisville, KY.

Mary Alice Black and Linda Hawkins have collaborated on two cd's in recent years and on Friday's Coffee with Kathy, they talked about the cd's.  Both are collections of piano solos with the first one, The Joy of Music, a collection of movie and show tunes, including music from The Sound of Music and Oklahoma.  The newest cd, This is my Song, is a collection of gospel favorites, including Blessed Assurance and I'll Fly Away.  Hawkins said that both cds are wonderfully peaceful and inspirational.  During the show, they took callers to win a copy and Byra Meredith gets her choice of which cd s
