Thank You from the Katie Sue Dotson Family

The family of Katie Sue Dotson would like to thank the staff of Smith Funeral Home for their kindness and compassion during our loss. To the community members who brought food, sent flowers and prayed for our family, we will forever be thankful. Katie Sue lived all of her adult life in the Chicago area, but her heart was always at home in Butler County.

2015 Butler County High School NJROTC Area Manager's Inspection

On the morning of Friday, August 28, the Butler County NJROTC program had their AMI (Area Manager’s Inspection). Butler County NJROTC falls within AREA 9 and is one of 56 High Schools within; Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, and New Mexico. The ceremony begins with Cadet Chaplain, Wyatt Southerland saying a prayer which is then followed by the Parading of the Colors, led by Color Guard Commander Cadet Ryan Hamilton; the BCHS choir, led by Mr. Travis Lowe, then came into the gym and sang the National Anthem.

BCHS Band ready to start season

The BCHS Band performed in exhibition at Muhlenberg County on Saturday.    The first competition will be at Frankli-Simpson opn Saturday, September 12. The band will play at 5:45 p m.

BCHS Class 1985 Reunion

Observe the Jewish High Holy Days in Bowling Green

Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot are important days of the year for Jewish people throughout the world.  

Rosh Hashanah, meaning “New Year”, is the Biblical Feast of Trumpets.  It features blasts of shofar, and is celebrated with apples and honey, which symbolize wishing each other a sweet year.

More than $8,300 raised for Steve Merideth

The giving nature of Butler Countians was on display again last Saturday at the Eva Hawes Ag Expo and Convention Center in the City Park. The event was a fundraiser for Steve Merideth, who is battling cancer. The event featured a car and tractor show, a tractor parade, an auction, and a bar-b-que cook-off.

BC Relay For Life

Saturday, August 22nd hosted lovely weather in the mid-80's and mostly clear skies, which was optimal weather for the commencement of the 2015 Butler County Relay for Life ceremonies. The event began at roughly 6pm at the Butler County High School football field with a welcome given by Emily Wallace, the event organizer. An invocation was given by Matthew Embry before the pledge of allegiance. Rachel Johnson sang the National Anthem. Mayor Phelps was called to say a few words.

West-Hayes Engagement

Nickie West and Richard Hayes are happy to announce their engagement for marriage. Nickie is the daughter of Tommy and Linda West of Morgantown, KY. Richard is the son of Frank and Glenda Hayes of Mammoth Cave, KY.

Nickie graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She is currently a second grade teacher at Morgantown Elementary School.  Richard is the co-owner of The Hickory Cabins located in Mammoth Cave, KY.

2015 Field Day to Focus on Alfalfa, Soybeans, and Equipment

The Butler County Extension Service/Butler County Farm Bureau Field Day will be Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the Heritage Farm in the Sharer community of Butler County.  The farm is on Hwy 1083 in southern Butler County.  Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Community Education Classes for the Fall/ Winter

Yoga Beginning August 31 at the Butler County Education Complex, Fee: $4.00 as you come. Class will be from 5:30-6:30. Classes will be Mondays and Thursdays.

Line Dance-Mondays from 5-7pm. Free. Held at the Education Complex.
