This Sidewalk is Made for Walking…….

    And that is just what they do, pardon the song pun. You may have noticed, after all the orange barrels were finally moved, that S. Main Street has an increase of foot traffic. This traffic can be attributed to the new addition of a little more than two miles of total sidewalk. The pedestrian traffic along the road side has been a welcome sight to many passing through and locals alike. “The sidewalks have increased the number of people exercising in town now”, said Amiee Henderson of Morgantown.

Butler County Schools Celebrated National School Lunch Week

Butler County Schools celebrated National School Lunch Week October 12-16 with various activities at the school level. The theme this year was “School Lunch Snapshot” and participants were encouraged to promote school meals in a positive way via social media outlets.

All About Pumpkins

Few things say fall better than pumpkins. Whether you use them to cook, decorate or carve, chances are a pumpkin in some form or fashion will be a part of your seasonal celebrations. In fact, 80 percent of the U.S. pumpkin supply is available in October.

Here are some interesting facts about the season’s favorite gourd.

•    Pumpkins originated in Central America and get their name from the Greek word pepon, which means large melon. Pumpkins are in the same family with cucumbers, squash, zucchini and melons.

John King and the Mud River Revival Performs in Morgantown

The community mural next to the courthouse was the place to be on Saturday, October 17. John King and the Mud River Revival conducted a free-to-attend concert for the community at the monthly Music at the Mural event sponsored by the Butler County Arts Guild. Many people made their way to the show despite the relative low temperatures.

Around the County...

Again this weekend there were several activities going on in Butler County.The Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department held a Fish Fry on Sunday afternoon.  Several came out to enjoy fish, fries, coleslaw, baked beans, and dessert.  All proceeds went to the Fire Department.

Morgantown High School Class of 1948 Reunion

The Morgantown High School Class of 1948 held their 67th reunion on October 3, 2015 at the Farm Boy.  Class members included: Mardell Barrow Givens, Zora Evans Tayor, Joyce Flener Porter, Roy Givens Jr., Charles Hutcheson, Vernita Ingram, Rollie Porter, and Alma Jean Render Hocker.  Guests included: Claud Givens, Mary Evans, Forest Taylor, Ann Givens, Cortland Givens, Hugh Hocker Jr., and Carolyn Porter.

Nutrition Education Program at the Extension Office and Boys & Girls Club

The Butler County Cooperative Extension Service will be offering a free Nutrition Education Workshop at the Butler County Extension Office beginning October 15th at 8 am and at the Butler County Boys and Girls Club beginning October 19th at 10 am. .  There will be cooking demonstrations, food sampling, nutritional information, and learning to eat healthy on a budget.  Free kitchen utensils will be given away at each session.  The program is being offered by the University of Kentucky.

Green River Museum honors Victor Hugo Lytle

Each year the Green River Museum honors people who have made an impact on Butler County history or its preservation. The 2015 recipient of our GRM Impact Award is the late Victor Hugo Lytle, who was Lockmaster at Lock No.4, Woodbury, from 1952-1959. Mr. Lytle and his family were the fourth residents of the Superintendent's House. Join us for a reception honoring Mr. Lytle and his family, 2:00pm until 4:00pm Saturday, October 17. 3rd Annual Provo Cruise-In

Provo Rural Development, established 1957, held their 3rd Annual Parade and Cruise-In Saturday afternoon, October 10. The parade started at Monticello Baptist Church and made its way to the Provo Community Center.  The conditions were perfect for the parade, car show and all that was involved.  Lots of community members attended and had a great time.  Cars, trucks, tractors and even a gator were in the show. Holley Performance for Hot Rods sponsored the show.
