2016 GRCF Dog Show

July 4th at 11am yielded the 2016 Green River Catfish Festival Dog Show. The weather was a bit rainy, but it didn't dampen the excitement of the dog lovers and the dogs who participated. There were several dogs in attendance, and the winners were as follows:

VBS: Cool Springs Baptist Church

Cool Springs Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School July 11-13th, from 6:00pm to 8:15pm.  Kingdom Kids is for children ages 3 to 12 featuring Bible lessons, crafts, snacks, games, and music.  VBS kick-off "Kingdom Faire" will be Sunday, July 10th at 5:30pm.

MCRC to begin Restore Me Activity Program promotes mobility among Elders in a holistic way

(July 6, 2016) – Signature Hometown is proud to announce that the 60 homes under which they operate have recently launched Restore Me, a new twist on restorative nursing. As a part of that launch, they have kicked off a new program entitled Race Route 66. In this unique competition, Elders are going to walk the equivalent of Route 66, which is 2,451 miles. This will occur over the course of the next few months and end in November or December with a winner.

BCMS: Jump Start- July 28th

Incoming sixth graders: We know that you are looking forward to beginning your studies at Butler County Middle School, but we also realize that the transition to middle school can be difficult for many students.  You are invited to participate in a special program, Jump Start, designed for incoming sixth graders to help make this transition successful, and we hope you will make plans to attend!

Terrapin Race draws 136 entries; Myles Martin's terrapin takes top prize

Myles Martin, Chloe Camplin, and Tanner Farris

A change in location due to wet field conditions did not dampen the enthusiasm as 136 terrapins were entered in the Green River Catfish Festival Terrapin Race.  Held earlier today at the Eva J. Hawes building, the annual event is always a crowd favorite.

This year's race featured 10 individual "heat" races and one championship "feature heat" race comprised of all winners.  Each heat race ($20, $15, $10) and the feature race ($25, $15, $10) awarded prize money for first, second and third place.

GRCF: 0-7 Beauty Pageants

The second day of the Green River Catfish Festival Beauty Pageants combined two pageants.  The boys and girls 0-23 months and 2-7-year-old girls competed on Saturday morning.  All participants received a medallion.

Miss Butler County Fair 2016

Melaine Horn, Allie Easley, Olivia Moore, and Allison Wright.

On Saturday night of the Green River Catfish Festival, the Miss Butler County Fair pageants were held.  Young ladies ages 8-12 years competed for Miss Pre-Teen, ages 13-15 years competed for Miss Teen, while the 16-21-year-olds vied for Miss Butler County Fair. All winners will be competing in the State Fair Pageant in August.

Cardwell, Moore, and Grubb Crowned Miss Butler County Catfish

Miss BC Catfish Callie Cardwell, Miss Teen Conley Moore, and Miss Pre-Teen Kenlea Grubb.

The first night of the 2016 Green River Catfish Festival kicked off with the Miss Butler County Catfish, Miss Teen, and Miss Pre-Teen pageants open to Butler County residents only.

Miss Callie Cardwell was crowned Miss Butler County Catfish.  Callie is the daughter of Donald and Tina Cardwell of Jetson.

FSA County Committee Nomination Period Began June 15

(Morgantown, KY), June 28, 2016 –Butler County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Charlie Singleton, announced that the nomination period for local FSA county committees began on Wednesday, June 15, 2016.

"County Committees are unique to FSA and allow producers to have a voice on federal farm program implementation at the local level," said Singleton.
