Butler County Schools Add Smoothies to the Menu

Great news Butler County students, all four schools will be adding smoothies into the lunch program.  Butler County has been awarded a grant from the National Dairy Council, NFL and USDA through “Fuel Up To Play 60” , in the amount of $13,792 for a smoothie program.  Butler County got four grants approved out of forty-one applicants in Kentucky.  So, why add smoothies?  Smoothies are nutritious and they incorporate fruit into your meal.

Acrylic Painting Class at the Extension Office – August 11th

 Join us for the upcoming Acrylic Painting Class scheduled for Thursday, August 11th at the Butler County Extension Service at 10 a.m.

Create your replica of Cinnamon Cooney’s “Girl in the Rain.”  There will be no charge to attend, but you will be responsible for providing your own supplies and canvas. This will be a step-by-step painting process that both beginners and experienced painters can enjoy.

Butler County Antique Engine and Tractor Club held their 10th annual tractor show.

The Butler County Antique Engine and Tractor Club held their 10th annual tractor show at the Charles Black City Park in Morgantown on Friday, August 5, and Saturday, August 6.  Secretary of the club, Brent Carnithan, said they had 138 registered entries including tractors, engines, lawn mowers, and antique automobiles.  President of the Club, Troy Dunn, said, “I’m happy with the turn-out.  We had a big increase in the lawn and garden category this year.  We also had a good turn-out for the parade through town.”

Zombie Tactical and Survival Gear @ Ashley Plaza

Zombie Tactical and Survival Gear has been open for a year this summer and continues to attract various customers including campers, preppers, and those who are just plain curious.  The shop is located in Ashley Plaza and shares a store front with Tammy’s Treasures.  Owners Rob and Tammy Zlater wanted to offer the community a local store to buy camping, survival, and tactical gear after seeing there was no other place to buy certain unique items that they offer.

August 7th is Purple Heart Day

In going through family papers recently I found a copy of the letter my Dad’s (George Warden Romans) family received when he was awarded the Purple Heart during World War II. Since August 7th is Purple Heart Day and Butler County is a Purple Heart community through efforts of VFW Auxiliary #5837 and Butler County Chapter NSDAR I wanted to share this. I am very proud of my Dad’s Military service as well as all those who served and continue to serve in our military.

Coffee Bar Opens At MCRC

A new coffee bar has opened in Morgantown but perhaps not in a place that you might expect -  Morgantown Care and Rehabilitation Center.  Princeton native Devin DeWitt, an administrator in training in the Signature Health Facility, created the MCRC Coffee Bar as part of her training project.

Butler County Drug-Free Community Coalition

The Butler County Drug-Free Coalition met on July 27th at the conference room of the Butler County Educational Complex.  Director Rhonda Vaughn called the meeting to order and reminded everyone of the Back-to-School Bash on Tuesday, August 2nd at Morgantown City Park. The Bash starts at 6:00 pm with free swimming, food, and school supplies for Butler County Students.  According to Daisy Bishop, former Family Resource Center Coordinator,  over 450 students attended last year.

Ice Cream & School Supplies @ Rochester

The Community of Rochester had a Back to School Ice Cream Bash  at the Rochester Community Building. Several showed up with lots of school supplies. Ice Cream was a nice respite from the outdoors.
