Small Flocks of Poultry Recently Linked to Human Salmonellosis

There has been increasing interest in both Butler County, and across our state, in keeping a few chickens on the farm or in the back yard.  Birds can even be seen walking around Morgantown.  People have many different reasons for keeping poultry including, but not limited to:  meat, eggs, insect control, hobby, or nostalgia.  Most people think that salmonella is only a concern when using meat from large poultry production facilitates.  Since January 2016, the CDC has investigated 7 outbreaks that have come from small backyard flocks.  There have been 21 confirmed cases in Kentucky.  The fol

BCMS Students Host a Summer Reading Program

Bailey West, Kaylee Givens, Emily Winstead, and Lydia Wells are already working on a 2016/17 STLP Project focused on promoting reading through the Kentucky Bluegrass Award Book Nominees for 2017.
This group of books have been chosen because students always enjoy these new titles each year.

4-H Camping Season Nears

Now is the time for young people and their parents to begin making plans for an annual summer ritual, 4-H Camp. 

4-H camps are open to all Kentucky youth starting at age 9. At 4-H Camp, young people learn independence and responsibility, have a lot of fun and make new friends.

Time for Kentuckians to Take Mosquito Protection Measures

The most common mosquito in Kentucky, the Asian tiger mosquito, is now active in Central Kentucky.

University of Kentucky entomologists have captured Asian tiger mosquitoes in the Central Kentucky area during the past few days and are encouraging Kentuckians to take measures to prevent mosquito bites.

Cardwell & Parks Wedding

Together with their families Kaleb Paul Parks and Sara Kristen Cardwell will be celebrating the next chapter in their love story as husband and wife.  Kaleb is the son of Paul and Kim Parks of Brooklyn.  Kristen is the daughter of Mark and Melissa Cardwell of Gilstrap.  The ceremony will be held on the Cardwell Family Farm in Gilstrap on Saturday the 18th day of June at 6:30 in the evening.  Reception to follow. Everyone is invited to celebrate with them.

BCHS & WLBQ 101.5 Broadcasting Class

On graduation night at Butler County High School six students in the Class of 2016 wore white cords with their caps and gowns. The cords signified that the students were members of the inaugural Broadcasting and Media Class at the high school. The class was conducted in cooperation between Butler County High School and WLBQ 101.5 FM.

MB&T announces Lesia McKinney's Retirement

Morgantown Bank & Trust would like to invite you to celebrate the retirement of Lesia McKinney.  Lesia has been a long-term, loyal employee of MB&T for 39 years.  Lesia was hired in May of 1977 as a Teller and later became an Installment Loan Clerk.  Lesia went on to spend many years as Secretary to the President but her final role has been Customer Service Representative where she has loved assisting customers with their banking needs.

Please join us on Friday, June 10th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at our Main Office for cake as we say farewell to this wonderful employee.

BC Drug Free sponors " Movies at the Park"

Butler County Drug-Free Community Coalition is a silver sponsor for Movies at the Park on June 11th. Before the movie begins, we will have games for kids to come and play. The games will be setup from 5:00pm to 7:00pm that night. We will also have free hot dogs and popcorn to serve during that time. We have several different door prizes for parents and children to win during the games. The movie that night will be Big Hero 6. We hope to that everyone can come out and have some fun.

4-H Project Day Camp – June 27-29, Clean Up Day – June 30

The Butler County 4-H Project Day Camp will be June 27-June 29 at the Eva Hawes Ag Expo Building from 9 a.m.—3 p.m.  With clean-up day on June 30th. We will have many projects available including:  woodworking, needle stitching, cooking, nature crafts, photography, painting, and much, much more.
