Butler County Chapter NSDAR Art Exhibit

The Butler County Chapter NSDAR held their first Art Exhibit for Butler County Artists on Friday and Saturday, June 2 & 3, 2017. The showroom included over 100 entries in a variety of mediums, including paintings in acrylic, oil and watercolor. There were also pen and ink drawings, woodcraft and photography entries. There was also on display one of the Quilts of Valor created by the local Piecemakers group. Visitors of all ages were amazed at the amount of artistic talent from Butler County community members, both past and present.

Lullabelle's Story: The Trailer with Lots and Lots of Love

Karen Harper Lain

A “love letter to Butler County” is how local author Karen Harper Lain referred to her children’s book titled Lullabelle’s Story: The Trailer with Lots and Lots of Love. On Saturday, May 20th, several gathered at Morgantown Community Church for a meet and greet book signing to launch her first book.  Originally from Owensboro, Ms. Lain bought a piece of property in Rochester and began the process of moving a mobile home she purchased from Scottville to that area.  She has resided in Rochester now for two years.

Oak Ridge Christian Academy Graduation

Oak Ridge Christian Academy celebrated the graduation of two seniors on Monday, May 22. The ceremony began at 6pm at Oak Ridge Church.  Pledges to the United States flag, the Christian flag, and to the Holy Bible were led by Jasmine Alford, Trenton Cooper, and Cade Crowder. An invocation was given, followed by testimonials given by the two graduation seniors; Hannah Burden and Cory Mason.

Morgantown Elementary's Leaders of the Year

Friday, May 19th,  six children were chosen as the Leader of the Year in their respective grade.  They were awarded due to their hard work, dedication, and utilization of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey.
Each child could bring two guests with them for this special day.  The ceremony took place at the Kent Moore House.  Lunch was catered in with Superintendent Scott Howard, serving the children and their guests.

Cartwright, other veterans tour Washington D.C., visit war memorials

The Screaming Eagle Honor Flight left Nashville on May 13 with Butler County Veteran Jim Cartwright on board.  Cartwright joined 20-plus veterans on the flight along with long-time friend and former Butler Countian Harold Cortland Givens.
The group left Clarksville, Tennesse around 4:15 a.m. with a motorcycle escort to the Nashville Airport.

2nd Annual Butler County Football Car Show

On Saturday May 13th, several from the community and other counties came to participate in the 2nd Annual Butler County Football Car Show. With a little over 50 entries for the day, there were several beautiful classics to admire from various decades.  

The event took place at the Butler County High School track. Speckled across the track were several lawn chairs and spectators as everyone walked about voting for their favorite car.  Trophies were given to the best car, best truck, and best rat rod.

4-H Shooting Sports Program Sign-Up

The 2017 Shooting Sports program is set to get underway.  Sign-up date has been set for May 23rd, 6:00 p.m., at the Extension Office. 

What is the 4-H Shooting Sports Program?  It trains youth to handle and shoot firearms safely. It teaches leadership and responsibility in a non-formal environment while offering fun activities for youth and adults. While competition is not the main focus, the program does offer opportunities to participate in shooting events, competing in various disciplines and age groups.
