Butler County Middle School 8th graders Rayna Beller and Reagan West wanted to make a difference in their community.  They saw an opportunity to help with the local Missions backpack program.  This program helps students who are in need by sending food home with them over the weekend.  Rayna and Reagan came up with the idea for change to make a “change”.  They spoke at North Butler, MES and BCMS and began a coin drive.  Students were asked to bring in pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters each day of the week.  The schools surpassed expectations and raised over $688 for the backpack program.

Happy Feet Equals Learning Feet

Happy Feet was created in 2009 by Jerry Baird, a retired coal miner from Union County, KY.  In the beginning, Jerry reached out to his local school superintendent in hopes of receiving permission to create a committee that worked directly with students in the schools. After receiving permission, the first committee members were recruited and Happy Feet Equals Learning Feet was born.
