School Officials, Law Enforcement Investigating Possible Bomb Threat @ BCHS

UPDATE 5:19pm: Butler County High School has been cleared by law enforcement officers. No bomb was found.  The threat is under investigation.

BREAKING NEWS 4:21pm : Butler County Law Enforcement Officers are conducting a sweep of the Butler County High School.  A message was found in a bathroom at the school indicating a possible bomb around 2:30 this afternoon.  The building was cleared and officials notified.Stay connected to BtN for updates.

“We wanted to simplify the process and save the county money,” said Sheriff Scottie Ward. 
With over 8,000 tax bills to mail, the postcard is a $4,000 savings in postage alone.  Less paper used and postcard will result in a quicker process for the taxpayer .

UPDATE: "Dan the Dog" Case Dismissed

Update:  All charges against Robert Cron of Roundhill have been dropped by District Court Judge John M. McCarty. The case was dismissed dismissed due to failure of the prosecutor, Greg Hill, to show up for the case.  Hill was named special prosecutor when County Attorney Richard Deye asked to be excused from the case due to a legal history with Mr. Cron.  The over two year legal battle has had several court dates scheduled only to be postponed.

Courthouse now "tobacco free' on 3-2 vote; changes made to ambulance board

The Butler County Courthouse is now a “tobacco free” building,and the ambulance board will now consist of five board members instead of three.  Both decisions were made at a called meeting  of the Butler County Fiscal Court on Thursday night , August 29th.

J Marshall & Judi Hughes Honored for Donation to Boys & Girls Club

J. Marshall and Judi Hughes

The antique store on Hwy 231 is now called the J. Marshall and Judi Hughes building after a naming ceremony Thursday morning.

The Boys and Girls Club of Butler County organized the event to honor J. Marshall and Judi Hughes who donated the building, and much of the money for the remodeling and refurbishment.

The Boys and Girls Club of Butler County recently  announced that it will rename the Antique Shop on Bowling Green Road “J. Marshall and Judi Hughes House,” after donors, J. Marshall and Judi Hughes. The renaming ceremony will be held on location August 29, 2013 at 11:00 am.

Locals Give Day of Service for Impact Kentucky

Some of the local Impact Kentucky participants gathered for a group photo before beginning their day of service on Saturday.

“What if church left the building?”  This question on purple shirts seen around Morgantown on Saturday, August 24 gave a clue to the purpose of Impact Kentucky.   Volunteers from all Butler County United Methodist churches came together to participate in this day of service outside their church buildings.

Senator Brett Guthrie Plans Town Hall Meeting

Congressman Brett Guthrie will host a town hall meeting in Butler County on Wednesday, September 4th at 4:00 pm at the Butler County Cooperative Extension located at 112 East GL Smith in Morgantown, Ky.
 “It is an honor to represent Kentucky’s Second District and I look forward to hearing what’s on the mind of my fellow Kentuckians,” said Congressman Guthrie. “There are so many issues in the news today and I think it’s important to provide an opportunity to discuss them.”

A cHAMpion bid: $350,000 raised for charity at 50th KY Farm Bureau Country Ham Auction

BC Judge David Fields, James Runion, of BC Farm Bureau Insurance, and Congressman Brett Guthrie enjoyed the breakfast.

Phenomenal acts of charitable giving were on display during Kentucky Farm Bureau’s (KFB) 50th annual Country Ham Breakfast & Auction this morning, raising $350,000 from the sale of the Kentucky State Fair Grand Champion Ham.

Yum! Brands Foundation, based in Louisville, offered up a generous $350,000 for the 13.3-pound ham produced by Harper’s Country Hams of Clinton, Kentucky. That is the equivalent of approximately $26,315 per pound of ham.
