BC Board of Education reviews tax rates

The board meets at the Butler County Educational Complex.

The Butler County Board of Education met in special session on Thursday, August 22, at the Butler County Education Complex.  All members were present. 
Superintendent Scott  Howard gave Board members information on the tax rates for 2014.  The current rate is 37.7cents per $100 which generated $1,460,509.97 last year.  If left the same the current tax rate would generate approximately $1,497,994.53 next year due to increased property values.

Butler Countians will participate in Impact Kentucky

Butler Countians will participate in the third annual Impact Kentucky, a community service ministry organized  by the Kentucky United Methodist Church Conference. This year’s day of service is August 24, 2013 and more than 2,000 volunteers from across Kentucky will perform dozens of outreach mission projects in the four western Kentucky districts of the UMC, including the Bowling Green area.  In Butler County, the day’s events include a gospel sing-along with residents of Morgantown Care and Rehab.

Walls of Honor Nearing Completion

Recently the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5837 Ladies Auxiliary in Morgantown held a groundbreaking ceremony on the Butler County Courthouse lawn for the new "Walls of Honor " honoring veterans.
The Walls of Honor are nearing completion. First wall is done and the forms are coming off the second. Brick work hopes to start next week. Now is the time to order your brick.

What happens when a bobcat climbs an electrical pole?

At 2 am this morning, Warren RECC responded to reports of a power outage on Leonard Oak Road and upon arriving on the scene, they found a young bobcat on top of the pole. The bobcat was electrocuted, which caused the power outage.  Russell Givens of WRECC brought the bobcat by our studios for this picture.

Rapture Ruckus & Building 429

New Liberty Baptist Church hosted Rapture Ruckus and Building 429 in concert on Saturday at the Butler County High School gym. Organizers were pleased with the turnout.

Local GOP host Lincoln-Reagan Dinner

The Republican Party is alive and doing well in Butler County.  At least that seemed to be the consensus on Saturday night as over 100 people gathered for the Lincoln-Reagan Day Dinner at the Butler County Educational Complex.   U.S. Representative Brett Guthrie (R-Bowling Green) was the keynote speaker. He spoke about the debt, entitlements, and health care. He reminded those in attendance of our forefathers thoughts concerning debt:

Fire on Mooretown Road

Fire strikes again in Butler County. On Sunday evening firemen responded to a house fire on Mooretown Road. The house, which belongs to Mac Coleman, was a total loss.

Legislators to draw district lines

District boundaries are set to be drawn this week as legislators meet in special session to hash out legislative redistricting.

The General Assembly returns to Frankfort today. The House of Representatives convened at 11 a.m. CDT while the Senate was to begin at 3 p.m. CDT.
