City Council Rescinds Blighted and Nuisance Ordinance

The Morgantown City Council rescinded their approval of the Blighted and Nuisance ordinance at Thursday night’s regular meeting.  The Council also heard from Mayor Keown about Trail Town designation and from the Butler County Little League about their upcoming intermediate league.

Maranda Oaks joins United Country Heartland Realty & Auction

United Country Heartland Realty & Auction would like to welcome Maranda Oaks to our team! Maranda was raised in and resides in Morgantown, Kentucky. “God is good, and get a mammogram.”

“God is good, and get a mammogram.” This was a statement made by Becky Hankins at the start of Turn Morgantown Pink, and the sentiment was carried throughout the event as community members from Morgantown and the surrounding area gathered in front of the courthouse on a brisk Saturday afternoon to honor those who are fighting breast cancer, and remember those that have lost the battle. The event started at 2pm, and lasted roughly an hour.

Mixed Outcomes for Butler County Schools-Moving Forward

Butler County Schools 2013-2014 profile for Kentucky’s Assessment system, Unbridled Learning-College and Career Ready, shows the district has an overall achievement score of 65.6%. The score exceeds the state goal of 65.3 and the Annual Measurable Objective (AMO goal of 64.1 set by the federal government. The district has a classification of a “Needs Improvement” district. The overall score was below the 70th percentile or overall goal of 67.5. Student participation rate for all student groups and each subgroup was met.

Butler County Family Care Grand Opening

 

Butler County Family Care Clinic, a division of the Ohio County Hospital, held their grand opening and ribbon cutting on Thursday. Well over 100 people stopped by to welcome the Butler County Family Care staff to Morgantown.  Free t-shirts, clinic tours, health screenings, and door prizes were given to guests.

Guthrie Receives “Friend of Farm Bureau” Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) recently received the American Farm Bureau Federation’s “Friend of Farm Bureau” award.

“Agriculture is a key industry in our Commonwealth and plays a major role in our local economy,” said Congressman Guthrie. “It truly is an honor to receive this award from the American Farm Bureau Federation.”

Local GOP gathers; Hutcheson honored as Republican of the Year

Republican notables and the party rank-and-file gathered in Morgantown on Saturday night, September 27, for the annual Lincoln-Reagan Day Dinner, sponsored by the Butler County Republican Party.  The event was held at the Eva J. Hawes building.

MB&T's Ice Cream Social a huge success

Morgantown Bank and Trust's 2nd Annual Ice Cream Social was held Saturday, September 27, and organizers say it was huge success.  Hundreds of children and their parents took part in the day-long event, which featued ice cream, games, face painting, music, ballons, and a drawing for five $100 gift card winners.  The winners were Stephanie Dunn, Candy Friel, Jarrod Rose, Jamie Givens, and Joe Forgy.

Commonwealth Health Foundation Sponsors Chamber Luncheon

The Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce hosted its final luncheon of 2014 on Thursday, September 25, at the Butler County Extension Office. The sponsors for the month were the Commonwealth Health Foundation, Shannon Vitale and Jim and Darlene Johnson.  The meal was catered by Gone Fishin'.
