Up, Up and Away

Up, Up, and Away was the theme on Saturday at the Charles Black City Park as Morgantown Care and Rehabilition residents, Louella Deweese, Reajean Grubb, Annita Joy Hammers, Ruth Cowan, Myrtle Givens, Dimple Daughtery, Randy Felty, Gail Childress, Bonnie McKinney, James Dockery, and Linda Gray’s dreams came true with a hot air balloon ride.

Morgantown Bank & Trust Ice Cream Social

Morgantown Bank & Trust said “thank you” to the community on Saturday as they hosted their first Annual Ice Cream Social.  Free ice cream, inflatables for the kids, face painting, balloons, and live music made for a fun afternoon.  The Rose Family Band was joined by several local musicians and singers to provide an afternoon of entertainment.

"Why do you storm chase??"  This is a question I am asked all too often, and rightfully so.  Weather is a majestic mystery to the vast majority of the public.  This encapsulates people to want to learn more, and for similar reasons, I take the risks involved with chasing more often than not.  The average Joe's view on storm chasers, as I'm often told, is questionable in the sense of "You know you could die, right?" or another one of my favorites...

Chamber Wraps Up Luncheons for 2013

Ty Smith, Tiffany Saltzman, Maddie Jones, Rayna Beller, Aleace Hall, and Barrett Noble.

The Morgantown Butler County Chamber of Commerce hosted the last luncheon of 2013 on Thursday, September 26th.  Butler County School Superintendent Scott Howard and six students were the guest speakers.  Representing North Butler Elementary were Maddie Jones and Rayna Beller, Aleace Hall and Barrett Noble of Morgantown Elementary, Ty Smith from Butler County Middle School and Tiffany Saltzman a recent graduate of Butler County High School shared their thoughts about the school system

 Friday night September 27, the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center hosted comedian Bill Engvall, one-third  of the Blue Collar Comedy group, perform his stand-up act for about hour and a half. WBKO’s Tina Jennings introduced Bill.  He came out to a roaring ovation.  His jokes about family, getting older and simply everyday life made him very relatable to the crowd.

Traffic Impact Report for Sept. 30-Oct. 4

Morgantown US 231 widening project - Occasional lane closure with flaggers present to allow construction traffic to cross road. Contractor working on shoulders primarily laying storm sewer pipes continuing Monday and with the project scheduled to be completed fall of 2014.

Group resurfacing project US 231 near Natcher Parkway & KY 70 – Contractor will be placing rock on shoulders and may utilize flaggers. Planned to start Wednesday and be completed by Friday.

MES cuts ribbon on "BIG RED" Computer Lab

Morgantown Elementary School  hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for their new “Big Red” Computer Lab today.  

Murals moving in on Morgantown

Local artist Gail Smrtic completed Morgantown’s latest mural Tuesday. With the help of her husband Gary and nearly 25 hours of work in 2 days time, Smrtic said she was tired, but the effort was worth it.

Smrtic, who is a member of the Butler County Arts Guild, has been an artist for many years with several fine works under her belt, but this piece, which can be found at 107 West Ohio St in Morgantown, is among the largest and most public pieces she has created.
