Former Judge Clay Johnson Honored

"Sometimes a single act or gesture can make an impact that lasts for generations.  Today we are celebrating a gentleman whose desire to see this property preserved for Butler County became a reality.  The Butler County Park at Woodbury is celebrating 40 years, thanks to the efforts of Judge Clay Johnson," said Tommy Hines during his opening remarks on Saturday at the Green River Museum.

Fiscal Court wraps up September business; passes budget amendment

The Butler County Fiscal Court had a called meeting on Thursday, September 25 at the Butler County Courthouse to wrap up business for September.  Magistrates Stevie Givens, Johnny Tuck, Chad Tyree, and David Whittinghill were in attendance.

The court authorized County Road Foreman Timmy West to purchase needed equipment from the Kentucky Surplus Property Sale. On a motion by David Whittinghill and a second by Stevie Givens, the court approved a $10,000 spending limit.

Music Legend Pat Boone Sings Praises of C.B. Embry

Legendary entertainer Pat Boone, spokesman for the national non-partisan senior citizen group the 60 Plus Association announced that C.B. Embry candidate for Kentucky Senate has earned the group’s Honorary Guardian of Seniors’ Rights award.
In a statement released by 60 Plus, Boone remarked, “I’m still singing at concerts, but today I’m singing the praises of C.B. Embry.  Seniors can depend on C.B. Embry.”

Linda Hawkins travels to Texas

Kentucky/ Butler Countian, Award Winning Author Linda J. Hawkins, flew to Texas arriving in Houston, Beaumont then Galveston for speaking engagements and book signings.

While there she toured Bishop's Palace on Galveston Island, such beautiful art was displayed.The palace was built  in late 1800 and still shines as a beacon with fine craftsmanship thoughtout. She is shown on the staircase leading to the third floor. Her favorite room was the library. She said,"If I would be allowed to sit a few hours I'd joyfully indulge in a good read, next to the lovely marble fireplace."

County Taxpayer's Notice

The 2014 Butler County Property Tax bills will be payable on October 1, 2014.  If you do not receive your bill by October 12, 2014 please contact the Sheriff’s office.
The following are collection dates for 2013 Butler County Property Tax Bills:

  • 2% Discount: October 1st thru November 1, 2014
  • Face Amount: November 2 thru December 31, 2014
  • 5% Penalty: January 1 thru January 31, 2015
  • 21% Penalty: February 1 thru April 15, 2015

Rep. DeCesare and AT&T Team Up for Boys & Girls Club

Representative Jim DeCesare and AT&T Regional Manager Nancy Jarett joined Executive Director Bruce White and the students of the Boys & Girls Club of Butler County to celebrate a $1,000 contribution.  Citing the importance of the organization’s mission to “Build Character and Leadership in Today’s Youth,” Rep. DeCesare recommended the organization for support from AT&T’s community contributions program.  Rep. DeCesare told the group how much he looks forward to representing Butler County as part of his new legislative district.

Arts Group Kicks Off Internet Funding Campaign

The Butler County Alliance for the Visual and Performing Arts in Education kicked off their new internet funding campaign on Monday, September 22, 2014.  The Alliance is seeking to raise $18,000.00 in order to stage its student art exhibition and new arts festival.

MPD nets two local drug-related arrests; gets info leading to two others

Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest-On Saturday, September 20, 2014, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Morgantown Police Officer James Embry arrested David Couch on drug charges as a result of a traffic stop in the 700 block of West G.L. Smith Street.  Couch was stopped on a traffic violation and after giving consent to search, Officer Embry found methamphetamine in small clear plastic bags and three empty plastic bags.
