Butler County Board of Education approves amended 15-16 calendar

Delaney Daugherty, a fifth grader at North Butler Elementary, was recognized at the meeting for winning the 2016 AARP Grandparent Essay Contest.

The Butler County Board of Education met Tuesday evening at the Butler County Education Complex, discussing a wide array of topics from archery’s success in the community to approving the amended 2015-2016 Butler County School Calendar.Last day for students is May 25, 2016. Delaney Daugherty, a fifth grader at North Butler Elementary, was recognized at the meeting for winning the 2016 AARP Grandparent Essay Contest.

Emmick speaks at WKU

Mr. Ryan Emmick

Mr. Ryan Emmick, Director of the Butler County Learning Center, was recently given the opportunity to be a guest speaker at the 2016 WKU CCR&R Early Childhood Summit held at the South Campus of Western Kentucky University.  Mr. Emmick presented “Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports for use with All Ages.”  This was Mr. Emmick’s third year as a presenter at the Early Childhood Summit which is held annually to provide training and insight to childcare providers by the WKU CCR&R.

The Butler County Tourism Commission held its monthly meeting on Mar. 3 at the Eva J. Hawes Community Building.

The Butler County Tourism Commission held its monthly meeting on Mar. 3 at the Eva J. Hawes Community Building.

The treasurer’s report was read and approved with a balance of $10,815.96.

The commission voted 6-0 in favor of giving the Rochester Ladies League $1.114.10 in funds for beautification efforts projects.

Butler Co. Shrine Club's biggest fundraiser of 2016 underway

The Butler Co. Shrine Club is in the midst of the Rizpah Shriners Annual Vidalia Onion Sale, the organization’s largest fundraising effort for 2016.

Those interested in contributing to the longstanding community event have until Apr. 14, 2016 to get their orders in. A 10-pound bag of onions is $10. The onions, brought in fresh from Vidalia, Ga., will arrive in early May.

Attorney aims to heighten awareness of national Johnson & Johnson case to Kentuckians

Johnson & Johnson currently faces thousands of cases claiming the brand failed to warn consumers its talc-based powder had the potential to cause cancer. Source: http://www.drfranklipman.com.

In late February, Johnson & Johnson was ordered by a Missouri state jury to pay $72 million in damages to a family of a woman who died of ovarian cancer due to prolonged use of the brand’s talc-based baby powder.
