Rep. DeCesare provides legislative update to Fiscal Court; Dr. Wan appointed economic development ambassador

Mayor Phelps delivers "State of the City Address"

The Morgantown City Council held its monthly meeting on Thursday, January 8, at the Eva J. Hawes Building.  All members were in attendance, including new council member Ronald Givens.  New Mayor Billy Phelps presided over a relatively short meeting of the council with the main emphasis being the "State of the City Address."

M.P.D.'s Burden, Deweese promoted; 2014 department report released

The Morgantown Police Department (M.P.D.) made two promotions during the Morgantown City Council meeting on Thursday night.  Sergeant Paul Burden was promoted to the rank of captain and Officer Denny Deweese was promoted to the rank of sergeant.

I.H.C. approves payment on Exie Hawes property; city now in control of KY Copper property

The city of Morgantown's Industrial Holding Corporation (I.H.C) held a called meeting on Thursday, January 8, at the Eva J. Hawes Building.  All I.H.C. members, who are also the members of the Morgantown City Council, were present. 
The first item on the agenda was election of president and secretary of the I.H.C.  Gary Southerland was elected president and Dionne Merritt was elected secretary of the I.H.C. with all members voting in favor.

Sheriff Investigates Credit Card Skimming

According to Butler County Sheriff Scottie Ward, several local individuals have had their credit cards skimmed.  Although their cards never left their possession, someone has their card information and is making fraudulent charges on their accounts. 
“At least one of the cards has been used at Walgreens in Bowling Green and we have a video surveillance tape we are reviewing at this time,” said Sheriff Ward. "A person could place a skimming device on a gas pump, a ATM or a Redbox, leave it for a while, return and take it off  without being detected."

Rich wins B.C.M.S. Geo Bee - AGAIN!

Butler County Middle School's 24th Annual Geography Bee was held Friday, December 19, 2014.  Following several classroom rounds held in November, ten student finalists participated in the school-wide competition.  Alex Rich, an 8th grade student, took the top prize.  Rich won the B.C.M.S. Geography Bee championship - his second title in as many years.  Fellow 8th grader Sarah Belcher was runner-up. 
other finalists were Dawson Phelps, Lindel McKinney, Brooklyn Henderson, Garrison Odle, Clay Odle, Dalton Rowans, Camryn Newland, and Caden Farrell.

Fiscal Court Discusses Right to Work

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in special session on Monday evening, January 5th at the Butler County Courthouse. It was the first meeting for new 5th District Magistrate Bobby Moore.

First on the agenda was a blanket rehire of all county employees, as mandated by state government. After a motion to accept the rehire by 2nd District Magistrate Johnny Tuck, and a second by 1st District Magistrate Stevie Givens, the motion passed by a 5-0 vote.
