The Butler Co. Shrine Club is in the midst of the Rizpah Shriners Annual Vidalia Onion Sale, the organization’s largest fundraising effort for 2016.

Those interested in contributing to the longstanding community event have until Apr. 14, 2016 to get their orders in. A 10-pound bag of onions is $10. The onions, brought in fresh from Vidalia, Ga., will arrive in early May.

If interested in making a purchase in this year's fundraiser contact a local Butler Co. Shrine Club Member:

Fred Tate has been a member of the Butler Co. Shriners Club for decades and said the organization’s philanthropic endeavors for the year are funded heavily by the fundraiser.

“Shriners do so many things in the community,” Tate said. “All of the money goes to a charitable organization and helps us do many acts of philanthropy.”

Tate said the Butler Co. Shrine Club participates in community events throughout the year like attending holiday parades, making trips to nursing homes dressed in clown garb to raise spirits of occupants and more. In addition, May 17 the Butler Co. Shrine Club will venture to Lexington's Shriner's Hospital for Children to assist in building a new wing for the clinic, alongside organizations from 17 other states.
