Sen. Rand Paul To Hold Town Halls in several counties, including Butler.

On Tuesday, March 22nd, and Wednesday, March 23rd, U.S. Senator Rand Paul will hold Town Hall events in Western Kentucky. He will be visiting Butler, Muhlenberg, Crittenden, Webster, Hopkins, Henderson, McClean, Daviess, and Ohio Counties.

Over the last month, Sen. Paul has held 32 town halls across Kentucky, and thousands of Kentuckians have come out to discuss the issues facing both the Commonwealth and the nation.

BCMS students place near top of 21st Annual Regional Bridge Building Competition

On Saturday, March 12th, the annual Regional Bridge Building Competition was held at the WKU Center for Research and Development in Bowling Green.  This competition was sponsored by Stewart-Richey Construction and WKU's Ogden College of Science, Department of Engineering, SKy Teach program and the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative.  This year's competition featured two area schools and 23 contestants.  Six students from Butler County Middle School entered bridges in the middle school division.

Magistrates talk roads - again; Sheriff Ward returns over $36K in excess fees to court

The second Monday of March came this week and with it the first regular meeting of the Butler County Fiscal Court. All memhers of the court - Stevie Givens, Johnny Tuck, Chad Tyree, David Whittinghill, and Bobby Morre - were in attendance, along with Judge-Executive David Fields and a group of interested onlookers.

Commonwealth Policy Center Honors Lt. Gov. Hampton with Award

Lt. Gov. Jenean Hampton visited Western Kentucky on Saturday and received an award from the Commonwealth Policy Center (CPC).  The first ever Friend of the Commonwealth Award, presented at a candidate training event in Christian County, is given to conservative office holders who are committed to protecting the unborn, preserving religious freedom and traditional marriage. "I'm really honored by this. I didn't expect this," Hampton told a crowd of 35 in attendance.

2016 Butler County Stockman's Association Sale a Huge success

The 2016 Butler County Stockman’s Association Cattle Sale is now in the books. It was considered a huge success bringing in $74,634. There were 42 heifers and 4 bulls sold during the annual auction. The average sale price for animals that were sold was just under $1,800. Buyers came from across the state to bid on some of the best breeding stock available in our area. One buyer came from southern Illinois and went home with 3 new heifers for his herd. Farmers that consigned animals to the sale were from Butler, Ohio, Muhlenberg and Edmonson counties.

Ag Commissioner Quarles makes visit to Morgantown

Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles visited Morgantown Monday to promote Ag Tag donations.

Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles made a visit to Butler County Clerk's office Monday to promote Ag Tag donations. Anyone renewing their farm plates can donate up to $10 to be equally divided among Kentucky 4-H, Kentucky FFA, and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture for promotional programs. In 2015, Ag Tag donations totaled more than $500,000, Quarles said. Butler County Clerk Sherry Johnson said partial donations of less than $10 are welcomed as well.

Alltech Young Scientist North America Winner Alonna Wright

Undergraduate North America winner: Alonna Danielle Wright, University of Kentucky, USA

 Eight regional winners will move to the next level in the 11th annual Alltech Young Scientist program, the largest global university contest of its kind that rewards scientific genius and experimental application in agriscience. The Undergraduate North America winner was Alonna Danielle (Ballinger) Wright, who attends the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky and submitted a paper entitled “Biological control of Agricultural pests.” The Butler County native is the daughter of Denise and Tom Ballinger of Morgantown.
