Butler County Does It Again: 100% ENERGY STAR Status

Nearly $729,913 energy savings since 2004
Butler County Schools has achieved ENERGY STAR status for each of its four schools in 2015.  In 2011, Butler County Schools became the first district in Kentucky to achieve the ENERGY STAR award for each school in the district.  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) prestigious ENERGY STAR is the national symbol for protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency.  This signifies that the building performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency.

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday night, February 8th. All members and several visitors were at the meeting.

Chief Swiney Resigns from MPD

 As of yesterday, February 8, Chief of Police Charles Swiney tendered his resignation. We, at the City of Morgantown, thank Chief Swiney for his years of service to the City and to the community. We wish him luck in all of his future endeavors.

In his stead, Captain Paul Burden has been named as interim Chief of Police for the City of Morgantown.

Butler County Cancer Assistance hosted a Cancer Awareness Night during the Bears and Lady Bears final district game on Friday night. The player, coaches, fans, pep band, and cheerleaders supported the night by wearing tee shirts and a lot of pink.

Stolen Vehicle Found in Butler County

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an abandoned and burned vehicle found approximately 50 yards off the roadway on Pendley Road in Butler County.  The vehicle was located on property belonging to Max Childress on February 3rd.  According to Deputy Trey Flener the vehicle had been entered stolen on December 29, 2015 by the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office.  The 2013 Chrysler 200 belonged to Sandra Vienoe of Drakesboro.

Transportation Cabinet adds new website feature just in time for tax season

The Kentucky Division of Motor Vehicle Licensing has introduced a new feature on their website that makes it easier for motorists to access their 2015 vehicle property taxes for the upcoming tax season.

Now, individuals who normally would contact their county clerks for this information can access it directly at http://drive.ky.gov.

The Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce held its first luncheon of 2016 at the Butler County Extension Service office on Thursday, January 28.  Chamber President James Runion welcomed all who attended and First Baptist Pastor, Bro. Greg Wallace, gave the innovation.  The meal was sponsored by Embry & Watts, CPAs; Aberdeen Baptist Church; Butler County Attorney Richard J. Deye; C&L Used Cars; Morgantown Community Church; Logan Telephone Cooperative; Doris Carver/Coldwell Banker; Bluegrass Oral Health Center; and Morgantown Utilities.

Morgantown - Butler County Tourism Commission Meeting

The Morgantown-Butler County Tourism Commission met on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Eva J. Hawes Community Building. Members presents were Judge-Executive David Fields, Mayor Billy Phelps, Roger Southerland, Brenda Longhoffer, Diane Dyer, Doug Odle, Dale Willis, and Becky Hankins. Absent was Terrell House.
The minutes of the September 3, 2015 meeting were read and approved. Treasurer's Report was read and approved with a balance of $13,480.38.
Chairman Roger Southerland explained how the budget of the Tourism Commission works.
