KSP Troopers remember Trooper Darrell Vendl Phelps

Kentucky State Police Post 3 personnel held a remembrance service at the grave of Trooper Darrell Vendl Phelps at 10:30 am at the Union Cemetery in Quality, Kentucky.  Phelp's son and daughter placed the wreath on the grave.

Poppy's Field Trip 2015-2016 School Year Winner: North Butler Elementary

New park ordinance, 2016-17 budget approved at City Council meeting

The Morgantown City Council met in regular session Thursday evening at the Eva J. Hawes Ag and Expo Center.

The Morgantown City Council met in regular session on Thursday evening, May 12, at the Eva J. Hawes Ag and Expo Center.  Among the actions taken were approving the 2016-17 fiscal year budget and approving a park ordinance that gives local law enforcement heightened authority to remove persons from Charles Black Park.

Survivors and Butler County residents touched by cancer attended the 2016 'Relei For Life' event at Butler County High School.

Despite blustery weather, survivors and Butler County residents touched by cancer attended the 2016 Relay For Life event on Saturday, May 14, at Butler County High School. 

This year's theme had a tropical twist titled "Re-Lei For Life."

Felty, McKinney recognized at May Board of Education meeting

The Butler County School Board met in regular session Tuesday evening at Butler County High School. 

The board approved the minutes of the April 19 regular meeting and April 23 special called meeting. 

Treasurer Eric Elms reported the beginning cash balance for April 2016 was $1,869,948.05; Receipts for April: $1,830,110.59; Expenditures for April: $1,572,975.57; Ending balance: $2,127,083.70.

Superintendent Scott Howard added an item to the agenda, an approval of a Dec. 2016 Morgantown Elementary Archery trip. 

Morgantown will unveil 'Movies at the Park" series May 21

Morgantown will unveil it’s new “Movies at the Park” series May 21 at Charles Black Park, showing 2015 adventure film “Jurassic World”.

Morgantown will unveil it’s new “Movies at the Park” series May 21 at Charles Black Park, showing 2015 adventure film “Jurassic World”. 

Concessions, bouncy castles and music will begin at 5:30 p.m. There will be free pool admission all day May 21, Morgantown City Administrator Jerrod Barks said. 

The event will be held at Charles Black City Park between the softball and soccer fields. Concessions will be made available at the concession with water, popcorn and popsicles for free. 

Senator Embry Announces Road Plan Projects Through 2018

Senator C.B. Embry announced the road plan projects through fiscal year 2018 for Butler County. “I am excited to play a role in bringing these much-needed improvements to the roadways of Butler County,” said Senator Embry, R-Morgantown. “These projects will ultimately help the infrastructure of the county and better ensure the safety of its citizens.”

Fiscal Court: Fire Dues, Land line Fees, Bailiff, and Clean-Up Days

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session for more than two-and-half hours on Monday night. All members of the Court were present, and the courtroom held several visitors from local fire departments and PVA Susanne Brosnan as requested by the Court at a special session held on April 28th.

Oak Valley Apartments receives Outstanding Performance Property Award.

Jerry Howard, Kathleen Brooks, Michelle Franzell and Tommy Willis

On Thurs., April 28th, Kentucky Housing Corporation and the U.S. Dept of Housing and Urban Development presented Oak Valley Apartments with the Outstanding Performance Property Award. Oak Valley has provided our community with affordable, decent housing for over 35 years. The property was constructed in 1979 by the late Shafter and Camilla Howard, of Morgantown. It is now owned and operated by the partnership of their sons, Jerry Howard, of Morgantown, and Michael and Linda Howard, of Newport News, VA.

Tips lead to meth arrest on Brownsville Road
