Morgantown & Butler County Budgets

The City of Morgantown and the County of Butler have both passed their 2016-2017 budgets with the second readings occurring during the June meetings of both entities.

Since the first Catfish Festival a fireworks show has been one of the signature features of the event. The show has grown from the small shows in the early years of the festival, to the 15-minute affairs of recent years. The technology involved has also evolved from a crew of local ‘experts’ firing the mortars, to modern, computer controlled shows launched by professionals.

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session Tuesday at the Butler County Education Complex. 

Board member Amy Hood was absent. 

Superintendent Scott Howard praised the district’s first-ever Senior Walk that took place last month. 

The Bowling Green - Warren County Drug Task Force and FBI received information of a potential load of narcotics coming to Bowling Green. As a result of this information ½ pound of “Crystal Methamphetamine” (Mexican Meth) was seized, 5 miles South of Bowling Green on I-65 last night (June 15, 2016) at 7:40PM.

(Morgantown, KY) – Butler County Water System, Inc. held an open house and ribbon cutting to celebrate their new location at 1118 South Main Street in Morgantown.  The new office opened June 6, offering the convenience of a drive-thru window as well as handicap accessibility.

The Butler County Fiscal Court held its first monthly meeting for June on Monday night.

The Morgantown City Council met in regular session on Thursday night at the Eva J. Hawes Community Center.  Council members Russell Givens, Allen Meredith, Dionne Merritt, Sharon Johnson, Ronald Givens and Gary Southerland were in attendance. Mayor Billy Phelps, City Administrator Jerrod Barks, Public Works Director Brad Johnson and Police Captain Paul Burden were also in attendance.

Mayor Billy Phelps called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm.  The invocation was given by Councilman Gary Southerland and the Pledge of Allegiance by Police Captain Paul Burden.

LIfeSkills, Inc. in Morgantown honored employees who have dedicated decades of service and hard work with a ceremony Wednesday.

 Roger Cardwell was honored for 32 years of service. 

Richard Lindsey was honored for 29 years of service.
