Quarles, candidate for Commissioner of Agriculture, visits Butler County

With the Kentucky General Election less than two months away Morgantown was visited last week by one of the candidates for Constitutional office. Ryan Quarles, candidate for Commissioner of Agriculture, came to Butler County to meet voters.  He visited several places in Morgantown and had lunch at the Farm Boy restaurant.

Chad's Cruise-In Nets $7,493 for Boys & Girls Club

 "What an amazing day!!!The 3rd Annual Chad’s Body Shop & Wrecker Service Car Cruise In & Antique Tractor Show brought in an astonishing $7493.00, all benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Butler County. City Council approves first reading of tax rate increase.

Morgantown City Council met in a Special Called Meeting September 4, at 6:00pm in the Eva J. Hawes Ag. and Expo Center.
After the meeting was called to order, the invocation was given by Gary Southerland, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mayor Phelps. Quorum was determined on the absence of Council Member Sharon Johnson.

Butler County Schools 2015 Renovations to start soon

The Butler County Board of Education approved Jenkins- Essex Construction’s bid of $2,103,805 for the Butler County Schools 2015 Renovations in a called meeting. They also approved the Fiscal Year 2016 Tax Rate, leaving it the same, at 39.1 cents per $100 on real estate and personal property.

Butler County man arrested after female found in ditch

Two people were arrested after an unresponsive female juvenile was discovered in a ditch in Ohio County.

According to a press release from the Kentucky State Police, on Thursday, Sept. 3, around 10:20 a.m., the KSP Post 16 in Henderson received a call from a utility company about an unresponsive female in a ditch on State Route 2713 near the Butler County line in Ohio County. Upon arrival Troopers found a juvenile female in medical distress, lying in the ditch on the side of the road.

Deadline to Enroll in Key Farm Bill Safety Net Programs Approaches Producers have Until Sept. 30 to Sign Up for ARC/PLC and MPP-Dairy

WASHINGTON, Sept. 3, 2015 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Administrator Val Dolcini reminds farmers and ranchers that they have until Sept. 30 to enroll in several key Farm Bill safety net programs – Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC), Price Loss Coverage (PLC) and the Margin Protection Program for Dairy (MPP-Dairy).

U.S. 231 to open soon

Bluegrass Contracting Corporation out of Lexington is about to finish the $2,762,317 project on U.S. 231 in Morgantown.  The contractor closed a section of U.S. 231 (West G.L. Smith Street) in Morgantown on March 10th.  The closure, which was expected to last until mid-summer, is still in effect. 

The project consists of adding a center turning lane, along with a curb and gutter.  A sidewalk has also been added.

Howard speaks at Chamber Luncheon

Superintendent Scott Howard

The Morgantown Butler County Chamber of Commerce held its monthly luncheon at the Butler County Extension Office.  The meal was sponsored by the Butler County Board of Education and Superintendent Scott Howard was the guest speaker. 
Howard started off by giving an update on the 2015-16 school year.
“Our total number of students is 2,145; that is down a little from the past,” said Howard.  “We operate on a 15-million dollar budget, employ between 300-350 people, and have 30 new employees this year.”

Morgantown Bank & Trust to open new Drive-Thru Facility, Utilities moving to Morgan Manor

Morgantown Bank & Trust is proud to announce the opening of its new drive-thru facility located at 208 North Main St. This new state of the art facility is attached to the bank’s current Data Center.
The new location consists of three drive-thru lanes, a drive-up night deposit and a drive-up ATM. As a new feature the third lane will serve as a truck lane which will accommodate the higher heights of trucks.

This location will open at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2015.
