Butler County among 32 Awarded Top “Gold” Status in Legends Campaign for Organ Donation

Butler County’s Circuit Clerk received top statewide recognition for outstanding efforts to increase education about organ donation.  These offices went the extra mile in supporting the mission of saving lives through organ and tissue donation and will receive additional acknowledgment during the Gift of Life Summit in Lexington on April 25.  The awards are supported by the Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks’ Trust For Life, a separate nonprofit dedicated to organ and tissue donation education in Kentucky.

The Legends Campaign started in 2015 as an effort to educate all Kentuckians about the mission of donation.  Circuit Clerk’s offices created community projects, school and media outreach, civic club involvement, and other promotions to address myths and impact thousands.  The Legends Campaign, a yearlong effort by offices all over Kentucky, had a major impact on increasing the number of people who joined the Kentucky Donor Registry.

The top Circuit Clerk’s offices, including Butler County, to reach gold level receive a pizza party and awards from the Trust For Life.  The 32 “gold” counties include: Clark, Jefferson, Boyd, Marion, Kenton, Calloway, Barren, Washington, Wayne, Magoffin, Henry, Butler, Morgan, Fayette, Grant, Grayson, Madison, Jackson, Owen, Bourbon, Hancock, Taylor, Boyle, Rockcastle, Oldham, Harrison, Breathitt, Fleming, McCreary, Estill, Green and Wolfe.

“The Circuit Court Clerks offices are to be commended for going above and beyond to help residents understand that everyone can be a Legend by registering as an organ donor to save lives,” said Shelley Snyder, Executive Director of Trust For Life.  “With compassion and dedication, Melissa Cardwell’s office has done a remarkable job of educating locally about organ and tissue donation. These efforts will undoubtedly result in more lives being saved and healed through the gift of life.”

“The Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks have supported this mission since 1992, and we continue to assist those in need today,” said Melissa Cardwell, Butler Co. Circuit Clerk.  “More than 1,000 Kentuckians are waiting for a lifesaving transplant.  Each day in America, 22 people lose their lives because an organ did not come in time.  It is my honor to be part of this mission to help teach the truth about donation and the need for everyone to join the Kentucky Donor Registry to give hope to those waiting. I applaud my hard-working deputies and every registered donor in Butler County for supporting this mission to save and heal lives.”
