Fiscal Court: 2020 Census, Tax Rate, and Roads

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, August 12 at the Butler County Courthouse. All magistrates, Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Timmy Givens, David Whittinghill, and Dillon Bryant were in attendance.

Julie Trovillion, with the Kentucky Bureau of Census, presented a proclamation for the 2020 Census which was signed by Judge Tim Flener to help promote participation in the 2020 census.

Kentucky Farm Bureau Centennial Proclamation

On Tuesday evening, Mayor Billy J. Phelps – City of Morgantown KY, and Judge Executive Tim Flener – Butler County KY, joined Farm Bureau President Shane Wells to proclaim 2019 Kentucky Farm Bureau’s Centennial Year.

 Whereas, for one hundred years, Kentucky Farm Bureau has served as the “Voice of Kentucky Agriculture.” Representing the interests of agricultural producers and rural communities.

Council approves restaurant tax on split vote; money earmarked for city park renovation

Morgantown City Council met in regular session on Thursday, August 8th at the Eva J. Hawes Building. All council members were in attendance: Dustin Embry, Sharon Johnson, Dionne Merritt, Russell Givens, Jason Gaskey, and Sterling White.

Drug Arrest

On Sunday August 4th, at approximately 9:00 P.M., Morgantown Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a pickup truck due to the registration being expired. Upon further investigation, a methamphetatmine pipe and approximately 1 gram of methamphetamine were located in the vehicle. The operator, Ms. Holly Lewis of Morgantown was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Methamphetamine) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Ms.

United Way awards over $34,000 to Butler County programs

United Way of Southern Kentucky announced last week that it will be investing a total of $34,115 in local education, health and safety net programs for the 2019-20 fiscal year.  The organization presented a check for $26,850 at  the July luncheon of the Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce.
