The Butler County Middle School softball program is hosting a skills and information clinic on Saturday, February 2, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the BCHS Athletic Fieldhouse.  The event is for girls who will be in grades 5 through 8 next school year, 2013-14.

BCMS 8th grade cheerleaders and parents

Monday night, January 14, was 8th grade recognition for the Butler County Middle School boys' basketball team and cheerleaders.  Eight basketball players and fourteen cheerleaders, along with their parents, were honored in between the 7th and 8th grade game against Bowling Green Home School.

The cold-weather months are a good time to start wildlife habitat improvement projects in woodlands. After the leaves are down there’s a much clearer view of the forest canopy. It’s easy to see tree crowns and the individual tree growth in relation to one another.

Butler County continued its winning ways last week with a pair of wins over Whitesville Trinity and Frederick Fraize, respectively.  The Bears notched another 12th District win on Friday over Trinity, 73-42.

The 5th/6th grade team from North Butler was named the Little Bears Basketball Champions. They won the championship and finished the season undefeated in their age group.

BCHS Basketball coach Calvin Dockery and player Elijah Flener, the newest member of the Bears' 1,000 point club.

Butler County made it five in a row on Tuesday night with a 78-66 home win against neighboring Logan County.  The win came after a slow start for the Bears, who trailed 20-15 after the first quarter.

Dave Baker, editor of Kentucky Afield magazine, casts a fly in Otter Creek in Meade County for trout during a snow shower. Otter Creek is one of the 13 seasonal catch and release trout streams across Kentucky that offers quality trout fishing all winter long.

The buzz of the holidays is gone for another year. The college football season is over until next fall. Most hunting is gone until then, too. The sky is often low, leaden and depressing in January and February.

Oak Ridge Christian Academy will host a boys and girls basketball tournament on January 19, 2013.  Boys’ teams will include: Oak Ridge, Dayspring, Victory, and Bethel.  Girls’ Teams include: Oak Ridge, Dayspring, Victory and Glasgow. Games begin at 10:00 am.

 The Butler County boys' basketball team extended its perfect district record to 4-0 on Friday night with a solid 64-52 win over Grayson County at Leitchfield.  Meanwhile, the Lady Bears dropped a hard-fought 71-56 decision to the Lady Cougars.  The win for the Bears essentially assures the boys
