Bears beat Cougars; Flener recognized for 1,000 career points

BCHS Basketball coach Calvin Dockery and player Elijah Flener, the newest member of the Bears' 1,000 point club.

Butler County made it five in a row on Tuesday night with a 78-66 home win against neighboring Logan County.  The win came after a slow start for the Bears, who trailed 20-15 after the first quarter.  A last-second three pointer by Trevor Jenkins was actually needed at the end of the quarter to make the game that close.

The Bears rallied in the second quarter to take a 38-33 lead as the tempo of the game seemed to take its toll on the visiting Cougars.

However, a refreshed Logan County team won the third quarter 20-16 and drew to within one of the Bears heading into the fourth at 54-53.  But, the Bears owned the fourth quarter as key baskets by Jenkins, Zeke Woodcock, and Elijah Flener proved to be the difference.

Jenkins led the Bears in scoring with 24 points.  Zeke Woodcock turned in an outstanding performance with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists.  Elijah Flener added 12 points.  Flener was also presented with a game ball by Coach Calvin Dockery in a brief ceremony just prior to the game.  Flener had notched his 1,000 career point over the Christmas break in a game against Daviess County in the Ohio County tournament.  Tuesday night's game was the Bears' first home contest since then.
