BCMS Softball plans skills/information clinic

The Butler County Middle School softball program is hosting a skills and information clinic on Saturday, February 2, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the BCHS Athletic Fieldhouse.  The event is for girls who will be in grades 5 through 8 next school year, 2013-14.  The purpose of the skills/information clinic is to introduce prospective players to the BCMS Softball program and provide them with the information they need to be prepared for tryouts.  There is no charge for this clinic.

Players will participate in a basic softball practice, which will include an introduction to the skills needed for multiple positions, hitting in the cage, and bunting.  Each player will receive a verbal skills evaluation from a coach.

In addition to "on the field" instruction, players will receive program information about what to expect at middle school tryouts in the summer, basic team requirements should they make the team (schedule and practice), roster limitations, understanding the KHSAA physical and permission form, BCHS Softball camps, the softball calendar, and the importance of supplementing school ball with summer/league ball and private individual instruction.

Parents are welcome to attend the clinic and take part in the informative session of the clinic.

"Our goal is to provide prospective players and their parents with as much information as possible about the middle school softball program," said John Embry, BCHS & BCMS head coach.  "Making the transition to school softball can be a big one for players and we want to help those who may want to tryout with this process.  If you have any intention of trying out for the BCMS Softball team, then you really need to attend this clinic."

BCMS Softball tryouts will be held in June.  Official practices (six days per week) will begin in July.  Games start in August and run to fall break.
