Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

With fall coming soon, I’ve begun to think about seasonal yard work. I like doing yard work, but thoughts of what I should do make the work seem overwhelming. So, I plan to do what needs to be done.

Say what? The earlier term for the word, Philology, is the term, Linguistics. In simple terms, how people
talk and write.
A coloquialism is a colloquial word (or phrase) of expression.. a localism, or regionalism. Most all of
these vary geographically even down to counties and cities... in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn (N.Y.), they say
" over in Joisey (Jersey)." In parts of Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina, we hear: "Go out to the haose."

Cheryl Hughes: Bowling

A week ago, during the rehearsal dinner, the night before my daughter married my son-in-law, my granddaughter, Sabria, whispered something in my ear.  “I have a surprise for you after we finish eating,” she said.  “Okay,” I said, “I can hardly wait!”
After the group finished the meal and we paid the check, I approached Sabria.  “What’s the surprise?” I asked.
“We’re all going bowling!” she said.

Jarrod Jacobs: Is This Vote About Freedom?

On January 26th, we were faced with the decision of whether or not to allow alcohol sales in our county. Next, has been the push to allow alcohol sales in certain towns (Morgantown, Woodbury, and Rochester). During this time of decision, we have noted what the Bible says about the recreational use of alcohol in such passages as Proverbs 20:1, 23:29-35, and I Peter 4:3-4. Yet, when discussing this subject, and whether or not alcohol ought to be sold, some ignored what the Bible said and remarked that this vote on September 27th is about freedom.

This year, Grandparents’ Day falls on September 11 – not a day we’re likely to think first of grandparents. However, the 9/11 date makes me think of country and family, and I’m very thankful for having had good grandparents.

Cheryl Hughes: Graceland

On Saturday, our daughter, Natalie, and her husband, Scott, were married in a ceremony at Graceland in Memphis.  Scott is a big Elvis fan, hence the ceremony location.  The little “Chapel in the Woods” adjoins the grounds where the mansion is located.  There are pictures of Elvis and Pricilla on the wall in the small dressing room, where I helped my daughter and granddaughter, Sabria, into their dresses, as well as additional pictures of the couple in the chapel.  It was a simple and lovely ceremony.  Sabria was a junior bride, and I choked up as I turned and watched Garey coming down the a

Jarrod Jacobs: If Christ Had Not Come To Earth

It is certainly a difficult concept to fathom, but consider the question: “What if Christ had not come to earth?” What would that mean?

If Christ did not come to the earth, then there is no New Testament. The very standard by which we live does not exist. This because Jesus is the mediator of a “better covenant established upon better promises.” (Heb. 8:6, 9:15, 12:24). This covenant was promised of God in Jeremiah 31:31-34 and fulfilled in Christ (Heb. 8:5-13).
