Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

This coming Saturday is kind of a big deal.  It’s the fantasy football draft for The Five Families league and Team Mow Money.  That’s the league I’m in as well as the team I own-well, virtually own.  Last season, I made the league championship.  So there’s nowhere to go but down, right? I kid.  I hope. This year, I’m coming for the gold, brother! Seriously, we have a toy WWE Championship belt that goes to the league winner.

What makes a league draft so fun? And believe me, they are fun(if not a little nerve wracking-in a good way).

Three facts have come to my attention. First, a national figure, John McCain, died. Second, advertising is specifically targeting children and preteens, and then Kentucky ranks near the bottom regarding exercise. Mark Twain said, “Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please” (https://www.brainyquote.com/topics/facts).

Most decent people hate bullies—they like to see bullies get their COMEUPPENCE.

God doesn’t like bullies: “I hate a haughty spirit,” he demanded.

Jim Green gave a bully his “what for” once without even touching him.  Hold that thought.

Cheryl Hughes: Follow the Bouncing Ball

Earlier in the week, I was in my garden picking butter beans when the song, “Yes We Have No Bananas,” came to mind.  I hadn’t thought of that song in years.  I was introduced to the banana song by Mitch Miller, the jazz musician who was the star of the NBC show, “Sing Along With Mitch,” during the 1960s.  The show was home to the bouncing ball, which Mitch would encourage the TV audience to follow as it bounced above the lyrics displayed on the screen.  The little white ball would land on each word to signal that word’s turn, staying to signal length and duration of beat, like a silent metr

Andy Sullivan: Country Club comes to Bowling Green

Thursday night, August 16, I went to the SKYPAC in Bowling Green to see Travis Tritt perform.  This was probably the longest timespan between me seeing a performer since Ray Stevens.  I first saw Ray in ’92 before seeing him when he came to SKYPAC a few years ago.  I first saw Travis at a WKU homecoming concert in, I believe it was 1993-94.

Some days we need to find something to lift us up. After all, life isn’t always easy. Hayley Kiyoko said, “We all want to be loved. We all want to feel accepted. We all want to feel content. And life is hard” (https://www.brainyquote.com/topics/feel). I’ve heard that we should appreciate what we have. Most days, looking around improves my attitude.

A pot-pari (a jumble, of today’s thoughts).  I just love it.  I hope you concur.

I watch TV quite a lot – I get some of my thoughts from it.  Some I agree with; some I don’t…naturally.
