Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I hope the voters of Butler County will choose the right man for the Judge-Executive’s job November 6. This county needs Mark Mudd.

When Mark married into our family, we became friends right away. I’m a Vietnam Veteran in a family with more than a dozen Hunt men serving their country in three generations.  I appreciate Mark’s long-time commitment to the military men and women who serve our nation. He stood with my father, Logan “W.L.” Hunt and me when the DAR honored us as father-son veterans of the year.

Is the glass half empty or half full? Bad things happen to everyone, but a situation may turn around. Beth Moore said, “A bad storm can blow in a beautiful season. The Bible proves over and over that how something begins does not get to dictate how it ends.” My late husband used to call unexpected events “adventures.” I’ve recently had a few adventures.

It’s good to see bosals on horse bridles now—if only in small numbers.

I watch TV westerns a lot; I’m starting to see bosals more in newer westerns.  I’m pleased.

A bosal fits over the horse’s nose rather than in the mouth like a bit.  It’s made out of a more rigid material than a regular bridle nose strap.  It is padded with a wrapping of soft leather or sheep skin for comfort.  It goes all the way around the horse’s nose and connects to the leverage arms to which the reins are attached at the bottom.

There are few things as entertaining to me as watching my husband, Garey, operate a cell phone.  I’ve said often, we keep young people at our work place because they are so good with technology, and to their credit, they do their best to help us old people navigate the technological pitfalls that trip us up.

On Friday, Lucas walked into my office, carrying Garey’s cell phone, and asked, “What’s Garey’s password to his phone?”

I stared blankly.  “Garey has a password on his phone?” I asked, “I thought he refused to set one up.”

Ready or not(and I’m always ready), here it comes! The “it” of which I speak is Big Blue Madness! It’s the Kentucky Wildcats’ first official practice of the new basketball season.  There are so many traditions I recall about BBM and some I do not.

Although media sources report that our economy is doing well, the United States financial statistics are still somewhat disheartening. Rob Berger said, “The best thing money can buy is financial freedom” (https://www.forbes.com/sites/robertberger/2014/04/30/top-100-money-quote...). If this is true, our country still has financial ground to gain. An Internet search led to the following statistics:

U.S. National Debt

No doubt many of you followed the account of the death and the funeral services on TV, regarding the passing of Senator John McCain.

We pick-up his story while on a bombing run in his jet fighter-bomber over North Vietnam—Hanoi to be exact.

His plane was hit and no longer flyable—to the point he had to eject.  No sooner than hitting the ground he was captured and taken prisoner by the North Vietnamese, where he remained in the infamous “Hanoi Hilton” prison for the next five and a-half years.

There is something wrong with the satellite TV connection in my BBC room.  I mention this because I have been unable to watch the news in the mornings on my favorite news channel, HLN.  Every morning at 5:30, I fix myself a cup of coffee and a strawberry Poptart then settle into my old comfy chair—the one with one broken leg that is up on a couple of bricks—and watch the news on HLN.  It is a morning ritual that is near and dear to my heart.
