If you asked why I choose to vote for Tim Flener. I’d tell you that Tim is the same person today as he was yesterday and he’ll be tomorrow. He doesn’t have to put on a show to win people over. He is true to his self. He is a Godly man. He has made several trips to be at the bed side of many of my sick family and friends. He has prayed over my family when we were weak. He is a family man. The man loves his family. And he treats our family like family. As a business owner he spoke to every person he walked by. As a deacon of the church he speaks to every person that walks by him.

Cheryl Hughes: Do-Over

On Wednesday morning of last week, I took my granddaughter, Sabria, to school.  Her mom and stepdad moved to Bowling Green over the summer, and Sabria attends Plano Elementary now.  She wanted me to walk her into the school, so I got into the lane leading to the parking lot, the lane adjacent to the drop-off lane.  At the first stop sign in my lane, Sabria informed me she had a tick on her leg.

“Why do you have ticks in your car, Gee?” she asked.

Always Learning

In whatever field you focus or are an aficionado, you can always learn interesting little factoids.  Learning comes from any and every outlet in life.  From the obvious(school) to radio to print to television (yes, even television), you are always learning.  Even if you don’t realize you are, you in fact, are, learning.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

My daughter sent me a screen shot of a Dave Ramsey quote a couple of weeks ago. It said, “Christmas isn’t a financial emergency. Dipping into your savings or charging gifts on a credit card should not be your plan. It’s in December again this year – be an adult and plan for it.” His comment had been shared thousands of time. Why? Maybe because many of us are guilty – at least a little.

THIS AND THAT:  No cussin’ on the beaches at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  Swearing is prohibited.  Failure to obey ordinance could result in a stiff fine, “Freedom of speech does not allow you to yell ‘fire’ in a crowded theatre,” wrote U.S. Supreme Court Justice, Oliver Wendell Holmes.  The same goes for filthy talk.

Cheryl Hughes: Work and Its Value

Did you see the news story about the woman who took the picture of Geoffrey Owens bagging groceries at Trader Joe’s?  Owens played Elvin Tibideaux on the Cosby Show from 1985 to 1992.  The woman who took the picture sent it to the Daily Mail then Fox News picked it up and a Twitter storm erupted, mostly slamming Fox News for shaming Owens for working for a living (newyorker.com).

Dear Editor and Butler County:

With a crowded Primary giving way to a race between only two, the judge’s race and who Mark Mudd is has been a subject of much conversation.

Jarrod Jacobs: Learning From Jonah

The book of Jonah provides us with a fascinating study. Last week, we studied the first two chapters in the book of Jonah. We conclude our study here. We ended last week’s article with Jonah’s understanding that “salvation is of the Lord” and then being spit out on the land (2:9-10). Let us continue our study of the book of Jonah.
