Andy Sullivan: The Boys and Me

Thursday night, January 31, my dad and I went to SKYPAC to see Sawyer Brown, who are celebrating their 37th year as a group.  They appeared on the scene in 1983 via Star Search.  Star Search was American Idol when I was growing up.  “Smokin’ in the Rockies, Rockin’ in the Smokies” was the song they performed that night. And yes, they performed that song Thursday night.  They’ve released 23 albums in their 37 years.  And they’re not done yet!

February, the month we associate with love, is coming to a close. During February – usually near Valentine’s Day, people express their love for others. Also, February 17 was Random Act of Kindness Day – a day to show small kindnesses to others. Acts of kindness often affect us in very positive ways.

An Internet site about kindness reported the following information and listed sources (https://sites.google.com/site/hhspayitforward/kindness-facts-and-statistics):

Someone opined that fanatics come from the ranks of the non-creative people of words.

The man who wants to write a great book; paint a great picture, create an architectural masterpiece, become a great scientist; he knows that never in this world will he be able to realize this.  His innermost desire can find no peace.  He sees the world always out of joint.  He is not likely to become a fanatic.

Jarrod Jacobs: “God Be Merciful To Me A Sinner”

Our title is found in Luke 18:13. In this text, we read a parable the Lord spoke to those who “trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others” (Lk. 18:9). This parable was about a Pharisee and publican (tax collector) who went to the Temple to pray to God (Lk. 18:10-13).

Representative Steve Sheldon

As I file this legislative update from my Capitol desk, we are more than halfway through this year’s legislative session and wrapping up business on our seventeenth legislative day. Our week began with members of the General Assembly convening Tuesday’s session in the Old State Capitol Building.

I once read about a fellow named Gibron.  He was shipwrecked and made it to a nearby island.  The people there were helpful and friendly.  Still he longed for a ship to come and pick him up.  He longed for 12 years before anyone came to get him.

When he got ready to leave, he felt reluctant to go. Why the reluctance, he thought to himself?  What had come over him?  He couldn’t explain it.  The people had treated him well.  Why don’t I want to leave?

The importance of music should never be understated.  From accompaniment while you work, exercise or anything else, For me personally, I get more written.  I often run faster when a faster paced song comes on.

It was a productive third week of the 2019 Regular Session, as the General Assembly remained hard at work in Frankfort.

Recently, I’ve become interested in learning to make pies. On Sundays, my family has patiently taste-tested various pies, giving me good feedback. Some recipes required more than one try, while others were surprisingly easy. I hope you enjoy the pie recipes below.

Cheryl Hughes: This and That

“What did you do in school today?” I asked my granddaughter, Sabria, one day after school.

“Oh, this and that,” she replied.

It was the same response she always gives when you ask her what she did or learned in school that day.

The next time I picked her up, I tried a different approach.  “Besides this and that, did you do anything interesting in school today?” I asked.
