Don Locke: Lookin Thru Bifocals

It’s said that dominating another makes the dominator feel powerful and knowledgeable, but it takes away the vital energy of those who are being dominated.  It makes no difference if they tell themselves it’s for the person’s own good, or they are our children, therefore they need to be controlled all the time.  The damage still occurs, there should be a happy medium, which is not always easy to reach.

Oh You Didn’t Know?

This week, I’ll delve back into some things you might not know.  These were news to me.  I learned these from Little Steven’s Underground Garage, SIRIUS XM channel 21.  The Drifter’s “There Goes My Baby”(1959) was one of the first Rock & Roll songs with strings.  Rick Derringer, who sang “Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo” was brought in to record lead vocals on the McCoys #1 single “Hang On Sloopy”.  Another gem I learned on LSUG: Joan Jett sounds like a stage name, right? Jett was actually her mother’s maiden name.

Cheryl Hughes: Burn Before Reading

For years, I kept a single sheet of paper framed and hanging on my wall.  The paper was the final release of a reclamation bond that had been held for years by the government.  Garey and I had satisfied the requirements necessary for reclaimed ground we had coal mined.   The piece of paper represented the conclusion of our coal mining days.  It also served as a reminder to Garey that he might smoke, drink and run around on me, and we could possibly work through the fallout, but if he ever got back into coal mining, I would go immediately to the courthouse and file for divorce.

Cheryl Hughes: Old Fashioned Karma

One of my friends, who is a very hard-working, decent guy, did something that was not completely above board, and according to him, he was bitten instantly in his backside by Karma.
