Gracie Elms and Braden Dockery were crowned 2021 Football homecoming queen and king on Friday night. Gracie is the daughter of Jason and Debbie Elms of Morgantown. Braden is the son of Brad and DeDe Dockery, also of Morgantown.

They represented the Senior Class.

The Butler County Homemakers are excited to host the Butler County Homemaker Quilt Show and Membership drive on Saturday, October 16th at the Butler County Extension Office from 10 am – 2 pm.

Did you know that smoking is the leading cause of PREVENTABLE death?  Worldwide, more than 7 million people die each year as a result of tobacco use.  In the United States alone, cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year.  Furthermore, more than 41,000 deaths can be attributed to secondhand smoke exposure. 

Starting after fall break, Butler County 4-H will be starting two 4-H Cooking Clubs. Elementary 4-H Cooking Club will be for 4th and 5th grades.  Middle School 4-H Cooking Club will be for 6th through 8th grades.

These clubs will focus on curriculum used in “Teen Cuisine” and will touch on healthy snacks and meals, food prep, food safety, culinary skills, food storage and many other items.

The UK Cooperative Extension Service will offer a program for New and Beginning Farmers starting October 26, 2021.  The Farming Basics for Success program will be offered in 4, one-hour sessions, delivered virtually via the Zoom teleconference system.  The sessions will be on the following dates:  Oct. 26, Nov. 2, Nov. 9, Nov. 16.  Each session will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will last one hour.  There will be time for questions and interaction after each session.  

Velda Elmore, now Alexander, finally got the chance to get to know her daddy Johnnie Elmore of Roundhill.  After 77 years, his forgotten US Army footlocker from WW2 was found recently in the family country store on Highway 70 in Butler County. Along with the history it holds, the container also tells the story of a courageous man that loved his country and his family.

According to the CDC, more than 16 million Americans are living with a disease caused by smoking.  It literally harms nearly every organ in the human body.  It can cause cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung diseases, diabetes, and COPD, just to name a few.
