Social media can be frustrating, especially for parents, but it is an activity in which youth love to participate. As a result, parents need to be familiar with it. According to a 2018 Pew Internet and American Life Project survey, 95% of teens have access to a smartphone and 45% claim to be online “almost constantly.”

Exposure to secondhand smoke for children is especially dangerous.  It can cause multiple health issues including but not limited to ear infections, respiratory symptoms and infections (bronchitis, pneumonia), and children with asthma who are exposed to cigarette smoke are also more likely to have more severe and frequent asthma attacks.

Cub Scouts host First Responder Day

Over 80 Cub Scouts, parents, and volunteers from four counties turned out for First Responders Day at the Butler County Extension Office last Saturday. Josh Hutchenson, Scout District Executive, participated in the seven-hour program that kept everyone busy.

Butler County DAR Veteran of the Year

Butler County Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is honored to recognize Specialist Joshua O’Driscoll as one of our Veterans of the Year 2021. 

In 2004 while a Senior at Butler County High School, O’Driscoll enlisted in the army and upon graduating he soon headed to Basic Combat Training followed with advanced individual training at Ft Leonard Wood in Missouri.  He was deployed in Sept 2005 in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Butler County Homemaker Quilt Showcase and Membership Drive Great Success

The Butler County Homemaker Quilt Showcase and Membership Drive, held on Saturday, October 16th, was a huge success!

Butler County Homemakers celebrated Kentucky Homemakers Week by showcasing over 50 beautiful quilts, many being hand stitched/hand quilted, and all having stories to tell.

Viewers were able to not only see these quilts on display but were also able to hear about the quilt memories, reminisce and learn about local ancestry, and learn more about membership and activities with the Butler County Homemakers.

There is no level of secondhand smoke exposure that is safe.  Even if it is brief, it is still harmful to health.  To put this into perspective, secondhand smoke exposure causes more than 7,000 deaths per year among individuals who do not smoke!
