Rochester Arts & Craft Festival

The Rochester Arts, Crafts, and Music Festival was held on Saturday and was a huge success.  The park saw a steady flow of people that enjoyed games, cars, trucks, music, crafts, motorcycles, tractors, beauty pageants, plenty of food, and a lot more. There were activities for every age group. Members of the military were asked to sign the satellite disc that was painted by local youth. The Green River Pageant was held as part of the festival.  Winners included:

It's in the Love, not the Blood: Things Are Not Always What They Seem

Last night I had the privilege of speaking to a group of women, who were paying a great price for some of the decisions that had made in their lives.  The women were in various stages of their recovery and I had come to their weekly meeting to talk about parenting classes that are offered at the Family Enrichment Center.

Morgantown Mission Hosts Breakfast

The Morgantown Mission held a pancake, biscuits and gravy breakfast on Saturday morning at their former location on Main Street.  A steady crowd came by to enjoy breakfast and support the Mission. 
“We are very pleased with the remodeling of this building.  With the help of the jail crew, the women of Andrea’s Mission, and donations we were able to complete the job for a very reasonable price,” said Gary McKinney, Mission Director.

McKinney & Deweese

Together with their families, Beth Erin McKinney and James Matthew Deweese are pleased to announce their engagement and fourthcoming marriage.  Beth is the daughter of Darrel McKinney and the late Betty Jo  McKinney of Aberdeen. Matthew is the son of David and Carol Deweese of Woodbury. The wedding will take place on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Aberdeen Baptist Church at 4 pm. All friends and family are invited to attend. Invitations will be sent to out of town guests only.

Exercise for a Cure with the BCMS STLP

Members of the Butler County Middle School Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) Addison Hall, Madison Clark, Hayden Johnson, Aspen Arnold, Tori Shain, and Alyssa Pace are raising money for Relay for Life.  The group is having classes at the Educational Complex in Morgantown. The first class was Monday, September 10 from 5:30-6:30 and featured Zumba. We will have another class on Monday, September 24 and we will do Zumba.

Rochester School Reunion

Saturday, September 8th was the Rochester school reunion in which all graduating years were recognized and accounted for. In all, approximately 30 were in attendance. The reunion was held at the Rochester Community Building. The final graduating class was 1953 and included June Lee, now June Lee Pendley, who resides in Morgantown.  Lewis Givens, from Jacksonville, Florida, and his sister Alvenia Fuller ( ’46) were among those in attendance.  Coleen Turner, ( ’48), spearheaded the event.

2012 Provo Pie Supper

The 2012 Provo pie supper, held Saturday night at the community building, once again gave the residents a chance to welcome everyone in homecoming fashion. The supper is the annual fundraiser for the operation of the community building itself according to Provo Rural Development president, Tony Wilson. “I want to thank our volunteers for the hard work, the people who came out in support and especially All American Barbeque for supplying the meat for the meal,” said Wilson.

2nd Annual Band Alumni Concert

The Butler County High School Band invites all BCHS Band Alumni to the 2nd  Annual Band Alumni Concert Friday September 14th at 6:00 PM at the Butler County High School.  All former band members are urged to come and bring your old instrument if
you have one, if not one will be provided for you. The current BCHS band members will team up with BCHS Band alumni for a concert with fun to be had by all!
Remember, alumni, this is just for fun, don’t worry if you’re not “Practiced UP!”  Bring a covered dish for the potluck afterwards in the Commons area at around 6:30 PM.
