Congratulations Hannah McClelland

Hannah McClelland, a student at Butler County Middle School, received state recognition for her performance in the 7th grade talent search. Duke University invites 7th graders who have qualifying scores on standardized tests in elementary or middle school to take either the SAT or ACT. Students who perform at or above the national average of juniors or seniors are recognized at a state recognition ceremony.

This summer, we’re following the life of Peter and his journey with Jesus, June 10th-14th, from 5:30pm-8:00pm. Kids from Preschool through 5th grade will have the opportunity to play games, worship, eat, make crafts and hear more about how Peter plugged in to God’s power.

Summer Food Service Program

The Butler County Board of Education is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Local students complete religious studies program

What would happen to a group of high school students if they participated in religious studies on a regular basis?  What if they did this every day during the school year?  A group of 4 BCHS students did just this!  Every morning before school began, these students spent 50 minutes engaged in religious course of study.

Father's Day Celebration

The Housing Authority of Morgantown and The Boys and Girls Club of Butler County would like to invite everyone out for a fun day at the Charles T. Black City Park on Saturday, June 16 from 10am to 2pm.

They would like to invite all of the fathers of the community out for a Father’s Day celebration.

All attendees must bring a father, uncle, grandfather, or any important male figure in their life in order to participate in the festivities.

Activities during the day will be: Face painting, 3-legged races, water balloon toss and eggs on spoons.

Drake's Flush of Mushrooms

Folks have been growing shiitake mushrooms from hardwood logs for centuries. But Droopy Drake maybe the only one in Butler County raising shiitake mushrooms in logs. Drake started this adventure a few years ago and proudly displayed a large flush of mushrooms in this year's crop.

Ticks Emerging Earlier than Normal

Typically ticks begin to appear in late spring and early summer as warm weather sets in, but this year, cases of the annual pest were reported three to four weeks earlier than normal, said agents with the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service. Extension offices been receiving calls about ticks for well over a month already from homeowners, farmers and hunters.
