It's in the Love, Not the Blood: Father's Day

It’s that time of year when we take the time to tell our Dads how much we appreciate them by giving them the standard tie, goofy card or in my husband’s case, a day to watch a whole baseball game preferably the Mets or the Yankees, uninterrupted.  My mother will tell you I was very much a “Daddy’s Girl”.  I always went to my dad first no matter what.  Need money?  Ask Daddy.  Need the car fixed?  Ask Daddy.  Need to explain why I was failing high school Algebra?  Tape a letter to the toilet...wait, that’s another story…

Cheryl Hughes: Renaissance Woman

Because of how easy it has become for someone to use the internet to get their words and opinions out there, it seems as if florid vocabulary in feature articles has gone the way of stone-washed denim. Case-in-point: whenever someone does a feature on another person, the subject is usually considered by the writer to be a "renaissance man (or woman)" if they are able to do two or three things well enough to be worth talking about. Because of this, many of our classic, descriptive adjectives have become obsolete, or , at the very least, devalued.

Skilesville's Hidden Treasure

A reflection of the Skilesville skyline (left) overlooking Rochester Dam number 3 as seen from the Rochester boat launch

Was Butler County, by way of the Green, the escape route for a group of masked treasure diggers back in 1902? The Hartford Kentucky Republican January 17, 1902 (Friday) includes a reprint of a story which was itself taken from the January 14, 1902 Louisville Post. Enjoy!

Living with MPS: Luke's story

Luke Embry

After changing his diaper, feeding him fluids through a tube and dressing him, his mother raises his body upright to a sitting position.  She pulls him in close, wrapping her hands around his.  Speaking to him in gentle tones, she claps his hands together and smiles as he laughs.

Wild Child
He pulled the fire alarm.

Sending everyone at church into a short-lived frenzy, the little boy threw his hands up in the air, wide-eyed, terrified, confused by the piercing sound.
