Note of thanks from The David Hatcher Family

Thank you all for the thoughtfulness during David's illness and his passing. Thanks to each and every one who sent flowers, cards, food, and for all the Gideon Bibles given in his memory. Many thanks to the ladies at First Baptist Church for the wonderful meal after service, and the ladies at Salem church who also brought food. Our appreciation to Bro. Greg Wallace for the uplifting message and to Jones Funeral Chapel for the care that was shown to our family. We also want to thank the nurses on 4D at the Medical Center we are forever grateful to you all.

Persimmon Seeds: Buy A Snow Shovel This Year

The results are in and they are conclusive. Sort of.

These persimmon seeds were carefully pried apart and so far the insides look a lot like spoons. That means we have little time to locate and lay out the old snow shovel.

Old legend holds that according to shape of the germ within, three possibilities exist:

Spoon= lots of snow to shovel
Fork= light snow or mild winter
Knife= winds that cut like a knife plus ice

Franklin Graham’s Shoe Box Ministry Begins

Once again you will be noticing Butler Countians shopping for children’s supplies.  Franklin Graham’s Shoebox ministry for children in poverty around the world has begun.  You will notice children shopping for children they don’t even know, but are excited to be giving toys to someone else.  Even when the joy of Christmas and the hope of the gospel, these children’s daily lives may still be filled with hardships.  Many don’t know where their next meal is coming from, or where they will sleep at night.  They are delighted to receive a shoebox filled with gifts just for them.

Extension Holiday Fair set for October 25

Tracy M. Cowles, County Extension Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences

Tracy Cowles, County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences, will present her annual Holiday Fair on Thursday evening, October 25th from 4:30 – 6 p.m. at the Butler County Extension Office, 112 East G L Smith Street, Morgantown.

Items will be demonstrated that can be made for gifts, home décor, etc. for holidays throughout the year, not just the Christmas Season.

Attendees will have the opportunity to try new and delicious recipes as well as have the option of “Make and Take” items.

Harvest On the Square

Main Street was packed with vendors, people, cars, trucks, motorcycles, and trick-or-treaters on Saturday for the annual Harvest on the Square sponsored by the Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce. 

"We were very pleased with the turnout this year, we had beautiful weather and one of our best Harvest on the Squares," said Jamie Chaney, Chamber president.

Beech Tree News will be sharing a variety of pictures from Harvest on the Square over the next few days.  We will start with pictures from the costume contest sponsored by Morgantown Bank & Trust.

A Thank You from the Chester Flener Family

We want to express our heartfelt thank you to all that surrounded us with support, prayers, and love during the illness and passing of Chester Flener. To Jan, Marty, and Missy at Jones Funeral Chapel, we express our gratitude. To MCC, thank you for wrapping your arms around us and for the wonderful meal following the service. To all the staff in the CCU and ICU at the Medical Center for the prayers and care. To all of Chester's doctors, who went beyond professional caring to offer support to each of us. To Pastor Josh Scott for giving us a tower of strength to lean on.
