The Charles Duncan Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will host a wreath laying ceremony at 9:30 A.M., Saturday, December 7, at the Butler County Courthouse lawn near the memorial monuments. The event is on the anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, but will honor all those who served in all the wars. The American Legion Post 151 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5837 and the Ladies Auxiliary will participate in the event.

Mrs. Lillie Mae McKinney celebrated her 101^st birthday on Sunday afternoon at Morgantown Care and Rehab.  Family and friends enjoyed cake a punch with the birthday lady.  Mrs. McKinney’s son, Bobby McKinney, hosted the event.    Mrs. McKinney lived in the Silver City area of Butler County with her late husband, Jack.  Happy Birthday Mrs. Mae!

Morgantown Elementary Jr Beta Club hosted a Can Drive for the Morgantown Mission.  Students at MES brought in cans for the drive.  The primary and intermediate class bringing in the most cans won a pizza party.  The primary class winner was Mrs. Donaldson's class and the intermediate class winner was Mrs. Weather's class. Total cans collected at Morgantown Elementary was 716. Morgantown Elementary Jr Beta sponsors are Mrs. Becky Vincent, Ms. Rebecca Otey and Mrs. Courtney Meredith. A special thanks to Mrs. Sandra Gill for delivering the cans for Jr. Beta!

The 2013 Triple Play Leadership Program recognized and awarded the outstanding input from members of the Butler County Boys & Girls Club pertaining to community service in the area on Tuesday, November 26 at 3:30 PM at the Butler County Boys and Girls Club.

Triple Play is a program involving BGCA and the U.S Department of Health and Human Services. The primary itinerary of the program is to promote physical activity and building healthy relationships for members aged 6-18.

Six students from BCMS band attended the 68th annual Quad-State Middle School Band Festival at Murray State University.  Around 200 students from the Quad State area performed in groups of 50 forming four different bands: Gold, Blue, White and Green. Gold band members from Butler County were Hannah Logan (flute), Garrett Embry (trumpet), James Clark (tuba) and Justin Blunk (tuba).

The following students were selected for Middle School Honors Band at Eastern Kentucky University:  Delaney Embry, Justin Hudnall, Clay Johnson, Cole Johnson and Reece Robbins.  Students were divided into three bands and worked with directors during the day to learn and perfect a variety of musical selections with a concert that night.  These Butler County Middle School students represented our county with dedication and excellence.  Tristan Elmore and Chase McCoy, student assistants as well as Director Jason Ausbrooks supported these students with this endeavor.
