This Sidewalk is Made for Walking…….

And that is just what they do, pardon the song pun. You may have noticed, after all the orange barrels were finally moved, that S. Main Street has an increase of foot traffic. This traffic can be attributed to the new addition of a little more than two miles of total sidewalk. The pedestrian traffic along the road side has been a welcome sight to many passing through and locals alike. “The sidewalks have increased the number of people exercising in town now”, said Amiee Henderson of Morgantown. “More people are active and it makes Morgantown look more like the little bustling town that it is, it makes it more attractive for families that may want to live in our community.”
However, with the presence of more people, comes the concern of safety, and most of the safety concerns come in the evening and as night falls. “Around the high school curve is a scary place at dark, and that section would benefit with lights in that area”, adds Henderson. “This would help both walkers and drivers.”
Like Henderson, most knew that the expanded roads would help traffic in the congested areas of Morgantown, but few would have predicted the increase and appeal the sidewalks on S. Main Street and G.L. Smith streets would bring to the area.
Walking area: High school to Garcia's = 2.5 miles, High School to courthouse = 1.8 miles
