BCHS, BCMS come together to help BC Cancer Assistance

On Thursday, March 7, the faculties and staffs of Butler County High School and Butler County Middle School squared off on the court. The game was organized as a fundraiser for Butler County Cancer Assistance. Both sides put on a great show for a large number of fans, but Butler County Middle School held on to win, taking home the trophy.

BC Football hosts"Bear Bash" Weightlifting Competition

Pumping iron during the off season is the secret to success for many football programs and Coach Ryan Emmick's Butler County Bears are no exception.  In fact, Butler County played host on Saturday to a competitive team weight lifting event.  Held at the BCHS Athletic Complex (Fieldhouse), the competition featured players from area schools as well as several Butler County football players.

Butler County High School Tennis teams sweep Hart County for 1-0 starts on the 2013 season. The girls deafeated Hart County 9-0.

BC Little League Field Day

Butler County Little League will be hosting a field day on March 9, 2013, from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the Morgantown City Park ball fields.  This will be the last day to sign-up.  Tryouts will be held that day.  Please bring your gently used ball equipment to donate to the league.  We will be selling the donations that day at yard sale prices as a fundraiser.

Butler wraps season with loss to Catholic

The Butler County boys' basketball season came to a close last week with a 69-55 loss to Owensboro Catholic in the first round of the Third Region Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter

Butler County (20-12) jumped to a quick 4-0 lead before the Aces came roaring back to take an 18-14 first-quarter lead.  Both teams played even ball in the second quarter to give Catholic a 30-26 halftime lead.

Dockery named Third Region Basketball Coach of the Year

Butler County High School boys' basketball coach Calvin Dockery has been named the Third Region Coach of the Year.  The announcement was made last week during the Third Region Boys' Basketball Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter.  Fellow coaches across the region vote on Coach of the Year honors.

I’ve restrained from writing columns through a UK National Title, an interesting NFL season, and a tumultuous college football offseason, but I can hold back no more.
What has moved me to put fingers to keys again? Is it Kentucky’s new football coach? Nope, he’s a big get for the Cats, but I’m not ready to write about him yet.
A possible NBA return for 50-year-old Michael Jordan? Nope. Nothing Jordan does surprises me.

Palmer signs to play football at KWC

Senior football player Ricky Palmer is joined by family, friends and teammates as he signs to play football at Kentucky Wesleyan.

 Another Butler County Bear football player will be putting on his pads and helmet to play college football next fall.

Ricky Palmer, son of Tom and Shellie Palmer, signed a National Letter of Intent on Tuesday to play his college football at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro. Palmer was a standout lineman on both sides of the ball at BCHS. He will be a defensive lineman for the KWC Panthers.

Gaskey sets school record for strike-outs at Murray State

Former BCHS softball standout CheyAnne Gaskey has etched her name into the record books at her new school. Gaskey set the Murray State University single game strikeouts record when she fanned 14 batters on Sunday in the Arkansas Invitational Tournament.
