Butler County High School boys' basketball coach Calvin Dockery has been named the Third Region Coach of the Year.  The announcement was made last week during the Third Region Boys' Basketball Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter.  Fellow coaches across the region vote on Coach of the Year honors.

"Any coaching award is a team award.   It takes players that give you everything they have to make it possible.  Many people deserve credit for this season; the coaching staff (Kenny Swift, Steve McLean, Chad Bratcher) was tremendous all year," said Dockery. "Former Coach Woodcock put three years of work in with several of these kids also, so many people worked hard to make this season a success," added Dockery.

Dockery, in his first season as head coach at the high school level, finished with a 20-12 overall record (15-4 against regional opponents; 8-0 in district play), and won the 12th District Tournament - the first time for the boys' team since the 1960s.

The coach had nothing but praise for his squad and what they accomplished this season.

"The success of the young men that represented our county, school, and themselves with integrity and pride night in night out should be the focus and I realize every sacrifice they made to make this possible," said Dockery.  " I am honored to receive this award, but more so humbled by the opportunity to have had this ride with such a fine set of young men."

Dockery spent nine years coaching at Butler County Middle School prior to taking the reins at BCHS.
