BCMS Bears advance in GRVC Championship

Butler County Boy’s middle school basketball will come to a close this week, but hopefully not before the Bears bring home a championship trophy on Thursday night.  The Bears have had a successful season and ended with a 14 – 5 record giving the Bears a number one seed going into the tournament.  The Bears squared off in tournament action on Saturday, January 26th against a Breckinridge County team that they hadn’t seen all year due to a cancellation so the Bears didn’t know what to expect.   The Bears started out a little sluggish in the first quarter and found themselves down by 2 at 9 -7

Kentucky Afield Outdoors: Record harvest for 2012-13 deer season in Kentucky

Kentucky deer hunters set a new harvest record for the 2012-2013 deer season that ended when archery deer season closed Jan. 21. They harvested 131,388 white-tailed deer, besting the previous record of 124,752 established during the 2004-2005 deer season.

Kentucky deer hunters will have lots of ground venison for chili this winter, roasts to bake with onions, celery and vegetables and back strap chops to grill during the summer.
That’s because a record deer harvest was posted for the 2012-13 deer season, which ended with the close of archery season on Jan. 21.
Hunters bagged 131,388 whitetails of which 56 percent were male and 44 percent female. Firearms hunters reported taking 95,612 deer while archers harvested 18,705 deer. Muzzleloader hunters took 14,583 deer and crossbow hunters, 2,488 deer.
