Lady Bears and Bears Ready to take the court.

Basketball season for the Butler County High School Bears and Lady Bears begins this week. The Lady Bears tip off their campaign on Monday in Morgantown against the Hancock County Lady Hornets. The Bears hit the road on Friday night to begin their season at Ohio County High School against the powerful Eagles.

Little Lady Bears wrap up another season

The Butler County Little Lady Bears have finished another exciting season of basketball for young girls.  Starting in early September, the developmental league was open to girls in grades K-6th.  Approximately 50 girls  played in the league.

BCMS Boys In Action

  Monday night the BCMS Bears traveled to Drake’s Creek Middle School for their fifth road game of the season.  Both seventh grade teams started out in a defensive battle making it difficult for either team to score.  The first quarter ended quietly with a tie score of 4-4.  In the second quarter, however, the Gator of Drake’s Creek found the basket after several Bear turnovers to bring the score to 20-7 at halftime.  Justin Elms was taking it to the rack for the Bears and was able to draw several fouls.  He went 5 of 6 from the free throw line and had a total of 9 points.  Also scoring for

And then there was one.

Only one game to go in the University of Kentucky football season. Just one more Saturday for UK football fans to be hopeful, excited, disappointed, and dejected, all in the space of just a few hours.

It occurred to me during the Georgia debacle on Saturday night that watching UK football is a lot like looking at a car accident on the interstate. A part of me wants to look and see how bad things are, but when I do look it makes me feel dirty somehow.

Meet the Team: Fans get first look at 2013-14 BCHS basketball squads

Basketball fans in Butler County got their first look at the 2013-14 BCHS Bear and Lady Bears on Monday night at Meet The Team Night at Butler County High School. Fans filled the home side bleachers to meet the teams and cheerleaders for the upcoming season, and see the teams go through drills and put on a show for the crowd.

Who let the dogs loose in Butler County?

The running grounds of the National Beagle Gundog Federation located in Jetson recently was the scene of a massive National Beagle Event. Over a two day period hundreds of hounds, their owners and handlers rallied at the 228 acre site where the dogs were let loose in packs to be judged on how well they could track renegade rabbits.

BCMS Boys' Basketball Travels to Grayson, Edmonson, and Muhlenberg Co.

The BCMS Bears got their feel of bus rides this past week as they hit the road for three tough road games.  They started out on Monday night at Grayson County to square off with the Cougars.  As usual, the 7th grade team played first.  The Bears were much improved from last week in the scoring department but still struggled with ball handling and turnovers.  Colton Bratcher was the leading scorer for the Bears with 7 points.  Justin Elms and Duane Daniel had 4 each.  Wyatt Dean and Sage Graham both had 2.  Matthew Gill rounded out the scoring for  Butler County with 1 to give the Bears a to

If you're a UK basketball fan you could owe some thanks to Michigan State University and coach Tom Izzo.

All the crazy 40-0 talk for the Kentucky Wildcats is over after only three games. Thanks to MSU and their 78-74 win on Tuesday night the Cats know they aren't invincible, and now it's time to work on getting better.

BCMS Cheerleaders take top honors in Region 3

BCMS Cheerleaders traveled to Owensboro Saturday night for regional competition and came home victorious.  The cheer squad won in their division and are regional champs for the second year in a row. The squad will head to the State Competition on January 11th at Eastern Kentucky University.

Bears fall to Tigers in playoffs

A fourth quarter rally wasn't enough on Friday night as the Butler County High School Bears fell 38-12 to Murray High School in the first round of the KHSAA football playoffs.  The loss brought to an end a successful 2013 season where the Bears finished 7-4 - its only losses to Murray, Owensboro Catholic, Russellville, and Union County - all top-tier programs.
