Joe K. Morris: Armchair All Star

After correctly picking the Browns to win on Thursday night, I'm 1 to the good going into Sunday's slate of NFL games. With a 10-5 finish last week my season record in my attempt to correctly pick 70% of NFL games has improved to 39-24 with a quarter of the season in the books.

Before I get to my picks, here are a few things the first quarter of the season has taught us.

BCHS Soccer

Senior night and a tough battle for the BCHS Boys’ soccer team as they took on nearby county rival the Muhlenberg County Mustangs at home on Monday night.
Before the game began, BCHS Bears senior members from both the boys and girls soccer teams were recognized. Each senior walked with their chaperones and a rose through a tunnel made from the outstretched swords held high by the Butler County High School ROTC.
When it was time for the game, kick by kick it became clear that head coach James Melton and the Bears came ready to play.

Joe K. Morris: Armchair All Star

Every UK football fan I know loves Rich Brooks.
Brooks was good for the UK program and UK fans. As head football coach he pulled the Wildcats out of a pit of failure and misdeeds, and actually brought a little excitement to the program. I respect Brooks, but I don’t put him in an exalted spot like a lot of fans. They seem to think that he took UK from cellar-dweller to contender, but that’s a little too much praise.

PREP FOOTBALL: Butler earns gritty 14-0 win over Grayson

A dedicated crew of Butler County football fans braved the rain on Friday night to see their Bears notch a well-deserved 14-0 win over the visiting Grayson County Cougars.  Although the score was relatively close, Butler County seemed to dominate much of the contest as the Bears' defensive squad turned in a stellar performance in keeping a potent Grayson County offense, led by quarterback Talon Gary, out of the end zone.
