Both the Butler County Bears and Lady Bears basketball teams have both notched wins in the new year of 2016, improving their season win-loss record in the process.
The Lady Bears (7-9 on the season and 1-1 in district play) lost to 12th District rival Grayson County 65-40 at home on January 2.  They rebounded on January 5 to defeat Warren East 54-39 on the road.  The Lady Bears recorded their first district win of the season on January 8 with a 60-32 drubbing of the Trinity Lady Raiders (Whitesville).  Finally, on January 12, the Lady Bears fell at home 48-38 to the Lady E-Gals from Apollo High.

Meanwhile, the Bears (9-6 overall and 0-2 in district play) dropped a close home decision to Grayson County on January 2 by a score of 55-53.  The boys bounced back on January 5 and defeated Todd County Central 60-57 at home.  On January 8 the Bears travelled to the "Barn" at Whitesville and lost a 64-60 heartbreaker to the Raiders.  The next night, January 9, the Bears dropped a 67-49 road decision to Glasgow.

Both the Bears and Lady Bears return to action tomorrow night on the road at Edmonson County for a boy-girl 12th District doubleheader.  The girls will tip at 6 p.m. with the boys' game to follow at approximately 7:30.  Both games will be aired live on WLBQ 101.5 FM with Smokin' Joe Morris and Diane Dyer.
